I am new to ancestry - my maiden name is Cheairs - the same spelling - so somewhere there is a connection - I would think - hopefully I can somehow connect - through "leaves" I have connected to Normandy about 1561 or so = Pierre dela Chaire - but have not gone into depth - My email is joycw@aol.com - if anyone has suggestions.

John F. Cheairs,Jr was the son of John Francis Cheairs, Sr and Elizabeth Bugg(she died in 1812) He was born 1812 in Arkansas... died Dec 25,1852 Angelina County, Texas; married -about 1837 to (Lucretia) Basheba Stanley, (I have never been able to document that her name was Lucretia) born June 19, 1803, Alabama, died September 11, 1877, She is buried at Enloe Cemetery in Porter Texas Montgomery County, near her daughter Samantha Marelda Cheairs Needham another daughter Elizabeth Stanley (middle name)Cheairs Robinson and Samantha's husband Kyle Grundy Needham.
I have court documents from Angelina County, Texas appointing Basheba as executrix of the estate of her husband, John F. Cheairs. They state the exact date of his death and the fact of where he died. It lists their children by name and talks about the land he received for serving at San Jacinto. I also have documentation about their other children's marriages and children etc.
I realize that the info you have for him is passed around and generally accepted as fact but a great deal is incorrect. You can contact me directly at kaydnana@earthlink.net if you are interested in correcting your info. I will share copies of the documents as well as info about Basheba's son from her previous marriage to ??? Blount. He is listed on the 1850 Angelina census as Green Cheairs but upon John F's death he began to use Green Blount. I have some court documents regarding this also. Samantha and Kyle Needham were my GG grandparents.

Hello to you Chelsea....You may find this message a bit strange, but I, too, have been searching for family members of CHEAIRS, CHEARS, CHEIRS or any spelling derivative of it. The groups that were contacted, are planning to get together September 2-4,2011. There are family in MS, Tn, SC, FL,MO,IL, OH, IN, WI, CA, MI. The name changed sometime during the turn of the century, dropping the "i". We are a HUGE family...although come 9/2/11, we may start as strangers, but before the weekend is over, I plan to have added to my family history contacts. The events specifics are listed on the EVENTS page on Facebook...
Take care of yourself.

You have this the most accurate that I have seen. Basheba Stanley & John F Cheairs Jr were my GGG Grandparents. She is buried about 7 miles from my home and regardless to reports to the contrary John Died in Angelina Co and is most likely buried on land belonging to William Carroll Stanley (Basheba's brother). I have done extensive research and am in possession of court documents that disprove that John F Cheairs Jr died in Houston County. I also have a receipt to Basheba for payment of John's funeral. By the way, Vivian McShan Gray was the GG Grand daughter of Basheba & John. Her lineage is: John F Jr > Samantha Cheairs/ Needham > Samuel Enoch Needham > Emma Augusta"Gussie" Needham/McShan > Vivian McShan/Gray If you would like a copy of these documents you may contact me at kaydnana@earthlink.net Kaydmay

Sir,
I hate to disappoint you, my info. shows that Samuel Cheairs was not in Milam County until after 1850. Are you
sure you have the right Cheairs? My info. show that the Cheairs family came into Texas around 1835 just prior to the Battle of San Jacinto. The settled in Nacogdoches Co., which later branched off partly and formed Houston Co.
After the battle, around the 1840 census Samuel and his
youngest brother moved to Bell County passin through Milam
Co. and then later Milam. I do not think they are the same
person. If you have any info. suggested otherwise, please let me know.
Sheriff Paul A. (or Samuel) Cheairs was the second sheriff of Milam County, Texas in 1838 to 1841. He came to Port Sullivan with the early Texas settlers to the large county of Milam where he was eventually elected Sheriff. I am researching for any information on him for our department history and website. Any information on him would greatly be appreciated. I would like a photo scan or drawn picture of him if anyone should have one. Thanks again,

Greg Kouba
Deputy Sheriff
Milam County, Cameron, Texas

I am a great great great grand daughter of William Carroll Stanley
and wife Margaret Rebecca Cheairs Stanley. Their son William Hollis (Hawk) Stanley was my great great grandfather and his daughter Margarat Henrietta Stanley Welch was my great grandmother (who lived to be 101 and I knew her) and her daughter Nancy Allie Farah Welch Dunkin was my mawmaw. Powell Rhoudes was married to my grandmothers sister, Katie. I can not locate the gravesite for Margaret Rebecca Cheairs Stanley, not am I sure where William Carroll Stanley is buried, I know where everyone else is buried and still have LOTS of relatives in Angelina County. I would love to hear from someone who has info and perhaps we can exchange notes. Eva Rains June 14,2003

Well, we are related to the Cheairs' in Hardeman County. However, we don't really know them and how they are some kin to us because of the limited resources and information that we have. What you can do is this, go to the listing where it listed names and addresses for the Cheairs family, then pick out a few that are from Hardeman County and phone them to see. That's all I can tell you right now. I will keep you posted on things. I will keep asking around.

He was raised by a family called Rhea. He was a farmer in Somerville Tennessee. He had 10 children. He has 23 grandchildren and about 100 great and great great grandchildren. So, it's a lot of us but we don't know our family. We are planning a family reunion 2001 and we all of our family to attend. Any information please contact me.
