Sheriff Paul A. (or Samuel) Cheairs was the second sheriff of Milam County, Texas in 1838 to 1841. He came to Port Sullivan with the early Texas settlers to the large county of Milam where he was eventually elected Sheriff. I am researching for any information on him for our department history and website. Any information on him would greatly be appreciated. I would like a photo scan or drawn picture of him if anyone should have one. Thanks again,

Greg Kouba
Deputy Sheriff
Milam County, Cameron, Texas

Sir,
I hate to disappoint you, my info. shows that Samuel Cheairs was not in Milam County until after 1850. Are you
sure you have the right Cheairs? My info. show that the Cheairs family came into Texas around 1835 just prior to the Battle of San Jacinto. The settled in Nacogdoches Co., which later branched off partly and formed Houston Co.
After the battle, around the 1840 census Samuel and his
youngest brother moved to Bell County passin through Milam
Co. and then later Milam. I do not think they are the same
person. If you have any info. suggested otherwise, please let me know.
