Hello! I'm looking for information on my line of Chauvin. Unfortunately, I have very little information. Dorothy (sp Dorothee?) married Oscar Bouquet. Dorothy was b abt 1859. Her parents were Joseph Chauvin and Delores (sp Dolores?) Vigas (or Vega). Joseph was born on 16 March 1823 in Plattenville, LA. He married Delores on 13 May 1849 in Paincourtville.

ANY information on these Chauvin's would be GREATLY appreciated!! This line of my family has been very difficult to trace.

Plattsburgh — Louis S. Chauvin, 90, of Stetson Avenue, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in West Chazy on Dec. 22, 1911, the son of Napolean and Victoria (Lucia) Chauvin.

Louis owned and operated a dairy farm and firewood business for over 50 years until his retirement in 1985, when he moved to Plattsburgh. He was an assessor for the Town of Beekmantown for 18 years and was a school bus driver for eight years.

He was a former member of the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy.

Louis married Eleanor M. Relation on June 22, 1936, at St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. They enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and also taking vacation trips.

Louis is survived by his wife, Eleanor; five sons and daughters-in-law, Louis H. and Shirley Chauvin of Brewerton, N.Y., John and Jeanette Chauvin of Dundee, N.Y., Howard and Noella Chauvin of West Chazy, David and Patricia Chauvin of Mims, Fla., and Bryan and Carolyn Chauvin of Wendell, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Five brothers, Joseph, Elmer, Herbert, Lawrence and his twin brother, Wallace; and two sisters, Mary and Catherine died before him.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Neill - Redden - Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Chazy.

Beekmantown — James E. Chauvin, 80, of the Military Turnpike, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Beekmantown on Sept. 30, 1922, the son of James G. and Irene (Kirby) Chauvin.

Mr. Chauvin was a member of St. Peter's Church.

He operated the family farm with his brother William until 1972. He worked for E.S. Mason & Son for 19 years, retiring in 1968 and later he worked for the Clinton County Highway Department for over 14 years, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Chauvin and Donna Caramia and her husband Thomas, all of Plattsburgh; three brothers, Donald Chauvin and his wife Dorothy of Plattsburgh, Gerald Chauvin and his wife Phyllis of Cape Coral, Fla., and William Chauvin of Beekmantown; one sister-in-law, Bridget Chauvin of Morrisonville; two granddaughters, Sierra Rae and Marina Lee Caramia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Catherine Chauvin; and two brothers, Harold and Bernard Chauvin.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart Association in his memory.

My father is a descendent of Joannes CHAUVIN from Belgium (Chauvin line originally from France). Joannes married Joanne Cornelia Gobeyn. They had two children: Francies Saffyn born in Maldegem on April 3, 1775 and Isabella Saffyn born in Adegem. The name Chauvin progressed to Souveyn, Sauvain, Savijn, Saffyn, Safyn, and Siffain. Are there any other descendents from this line on the message board? My father and his family immigrated to the U.S. in the 1920's from Gent.

Morrisonville — Martin Bernard Chauvin, 46, of Cringle Lane in Morrisonville, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he was on vacation with his family and friends.

Marty was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 22, 1955, the son of Bernard and Bridget (DeFonzo) Chauvin.

Marty was a graduate of Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh and SUNY Buffalo with a bachelor of science in criminal justice. He was a lieutenant at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora.

Marty enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and other outdoor activities. He was involved with the town of Schuyler Falls youth programs, coaching soccer and softball. He was a member of St. Alexander's Parish in Morrisonville. Marty was deeply committed to his family and friends.

Marty is survived by his wife of 23 years, the former Dorothy Sussdorff of Morrisonville; three children, Sarah Chauvin, Daniel Chauvin and Rebecca Chauvin, all living at home; his mother, Bridget Chauvin of Morrisonville; his sister, Patricia Chauvin-Osier and her daughter Charissa of West Chazy; and a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Michael McNally and their children, Sean and Emily of Saratoga Springs.

Marty was predeceased by his father, Bernard Chauvin.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 18, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 19, 2001, at 11 a.m. from St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will be later in the year in St. Alexander's Parish Cemetery.

Donations in Marty's name may be made to his family.

Thanks to many on-line geneologists, I have been able to clarify some errors in my family tree. I had Joseph Saulet Guidroz down as Solomon because that is how he is listed on the 1900 U.S. census. Sometimes, even the documents we trust to give us guides, steer us wrong. I am currently having problems going behind Emile Chauvin. Also, I have two names for his wife, Marie Jospehine Part and Laura Parr. I know the last name was frequently interchanged between Part and Parr. What I am confused about is the first name or names. I have a daughter of Adelle's that listed her mother's name as Laura. Does any one out there have proof of these connections? I have found some references to these people in "South Louisiana Records" by Fr. Donald Herbert. Unfortunately, these texts are reference material only and I am unable to get them on inter-library loan. I was able to do about 7 hours research in June when I was on a quick trip to Louisiana. Family members, I need your help! I live in Phoenix, Arizona and am limited on what material I can directly access. I am looking forward to corresponding with cousins I have not yet met. I am happy to share all that I currently have. Best of luck to us all out there researching.

He married (in a civil ceremony) 18 December 1860, Thibodaux, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, Marie Josephine Part [Parr] (b. 24 July 1834 Lockport, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana). Their first marriage is listed in records of Thibodaux Court House, Marriage Book volumne 11 #69. They were married in a religious ceremony at Lockport Catholic Church 8 July 1863. That marriage is listed in the Lockport Church records, Volumne 1 on last pages. In their second marriage record their parents are listed. Emile Louis's father is shown as Antoine Chauvin and his mother is listed as Elisabeth Demond. I have received information from a relative that his mother's last name may be deMonte and it is possible she was from the Dominican Islands.
