Frederick sounds like Frederick Sylvester Champlin, son of Richard Champlin & Carolne Slate Peck. He was born in Old Lyme, Conn Dec 25, 1873 and died in San Louis Obispo, Calif Jan 29, 1958.
Frederick was born a Champlin but changed his surname to Champlain after moving to California. One relative said that he did that so he could be descended from Samuel de Champlain. Too bad old Sam never had any children!
