I am researching William Samuel ("Willie") Chaffee who was born in 1863 in Lamoille County, Vermont. He was adopted by David Wright Chaffee and Susan (Davis) Chaffee of Belvidere, Lamoille County, Vermont in 1867. The adoption record lists Marsha Peavey of Johnson, Lamoille County, Vermont as the mother. I have no record of the father except a handwritten note from my Great-Uncle Edric Chaffee to my mother. Edric, the youngest child of William, gives the father's name as James Clark(e). My mother's maternal grandmother was Grace Chaffee, the second child of William.

I am very much interested in contacting descendents of William in order to share data and hopefully locate William's natural parents. Family letters, etc would be particularly useful in this case since they may point to particular individuals and places of interest. I live in Massachusetts so trips to various repositories in Vermont are not difficult. I am also a member of NEGHS and have access to their library. I can be contacted at mdensmore53@yahoo.com.

I also have a tree for William's wife, Carrie, that goes back quite far. One of her ancestors was a founding resident of the town where I now reside. Quite a coincidence! I'd be happy to share information with others interested in this family.
