Jeff: My mother's maiden name was Chabotte. I mostly find the spelling to be Chabot. Yes, it is definitely a French Canadian name. I am about to start my search on the Chabottes. There was a large family of Chabottes in New Bedford, MA. 10 children in all. Where was your grandfather born, and what date. I have a cousin George Chabotte who moved west. Also an uncle, Cleophas who moved to Michigan many years ago. He married and raised a family there after WWII. My grandparents were Napoleon and Alphonsine (Belisle) Chabotte. There were also a lot of Chabottes in Fall River, MA. There are six mentioned in the 1889 Fall River Directory, Cyrille P., Delima, Delphin, Huballe, Joseph Joseph. They were in the Flint, Flint, Bedford Seaconnet area of Fall River. Rick Jackson Chabotte@netzero.net. Delima married a man named Carter in 1891 and moved to Burrilville, R.I. This is just what I have on hand. I have been picking up bits and pieces, getting ready to start. Irene

Hi Irene! My grandfather was Joseph Damase Chabot who lived in Fall River in 1889. He immigrated from Canada in 1888. I do not know where in Canada he is from but I believe it to be I'le d' Orleans. I am still researching that. He married Amanda Lepage in Fall River, I believe abt. 1889. My father is one of 8 children who survived. My grandfather's death certificate lists Joseph Chabot and "unknown" as his parents. Does any of this sound familiar to you? If so, I would love to hear from you, as I have more info on this side of the family. I really would love to find out where in Canada my grandfather came from and what his mother's name is. Would very much appreciate any info you could give me.---Geri
