Surnames: Chable Baxter Fouts Parmentier
My great, great grandfather, TN Confederate Captain Alphonso Andre Chable (1829-1900), came to NY from Strausburg Alsace-Lorraine around 1850.

In 1852 he went to Polk Co., TN with Rosine Parmentier (daughter of a famed Brooklyn horticulturist) to establish Vineland -- a commune, I believe -- hoping to produce wine for the many new Europeans down there. Ended up married to Sara Baxter after the war, with a mill and farmland in Alaculsey Valley, GA, on Old Route 2 near the TN border.
