Hello, I am Karen Chabert, of Cut Off, LA, which is on Bayou Lafourche in south east LA. I am a Registered Nurse and live in New Orleans, LA. All my father's brothers were commercial fishermen. Our family has been traced back to Bordeaux France. There was a movie made about one of our ancestors in the military, "Colonel Chabert," starring Gerard Depardieu. We supposedly still have Chaberts in Bordeaux, and they are said to have a vineyard, winery and restaurant. One day, i put in Chabert on the net and got of course, Lacey Chabert. Then there was Carlos Chabert, Of Rosarita Beach, Mexico, and he has the whole history of Mexican Chaberts. We saw some Cuban Chaberts also.
I just wanted to say hello...some members of our family have done some geneaology too, so you may want to get with them...
good luck! PS. is there a Chabert family reunion in kentucky?

Hi Karen,
Glad to hear from you. I understand that there are a good number of Chaberts in LA. I don't believe we are related to any of them; however, who knows what may turn up. My grandmother was born in Paris and my grandfather from a small village just outside. Have discovered quite a number of cousin that I didn't know existed prior to the start of my search last summer. Everyone who may have know anything has passed away but did discover that my grandfather had a lot of brothers and sisters so there has to be more info out there somewhere. Theresa Brooks, whose name you see on the Surname message board has been a help; however, haven't been able to contact her for some time now. There was no reunion in KY to my knowledge, just one of the cousins that I found in Oregon who was going to visit his son, who lives in KY, for Christmas. He had hoped to meet Teresa while there but that did not materialize. I might like to contact the members of your family who have done genealogy work as there is no telling where you may pick up unexpected information. They can click in on the messages between myself and Teresa and find some names of some of my relatives.
Good talking with you - will let you know if I ever hear of a reunion.

Karen -
Me again - was looking through records and just wondered - you said some of your relative were traced back to Bordeaux. I am trying to get info on Alice Chabert who was born in Bordeaux but died in KY. Because of the Kentucky connection I am wondering if there may be something there. I am trying to find out who input this info. Is she in any way related to you? Let me know.

Karen, I am trying to document the Louisiana Chaberts. I am guessing your Dad is Leroy Chabert who is my wife's uncle. Her Dad was Alidor. Do you have any data that you are willing to share or know of anyone that has documented the Louisiana Chaberts?

My g-g-grandmother was Augustine Irma Chabert. She was born Feb. 20, 1841 in New Orleans an died May 27 1903, in New Orleans. She married Paul G Bizot, also of New Orleans, although he was born in France. Does this match any of your research? If so, I have more info.

My g-g-g-grandmother was Irma Marie Chabert, daughter of Philippe Chabert and Victoire Arnaud, who are both listed on federal censuses as being born in France. I just discovered this information when researching my mother's family. I know nothing about the Chaberts but would love to. Any help would be very much appreciated. Irma married David Bradbury. Their son, Stephen, married Louisa (don't know her maiden name), and they were parents of my grandmother, Irma. Any bits of knowledge would be so appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Karen,
I am Carlos the Chabert from Mexico that you mention in your post. I'm still around.
I have most of the history of the Chabert in this country.
I am pleased to know of you.
Do a Google search on Chabert. Take out Stacy, the most famous of us, and you will find many Chabert. Some are in Canada, France, Germany, the US and Mexico.
There is a girl living in Germany that sings beautiful French songs with a gorgeous warm voice. I wish that I could have a CD of her songs.
I wish you a long, happy and prosperous life.
Carlos Chabert.

Carlos,

I am a gggranddaughter of Phillippe & Victoire Chabert and would love to find more information on them. I know that they were both born in France but that's about it. Do you have a website with the Chabert pedigree posted? When I Google Chabert, no matter how I do it I get pages and pages on Lacey Chabert. Also, I don't speak French so it's been hard to trace back from Louisiana to France. I would particularly like to know when they came to Louisiana and why.
