How do you pronounce the name? Not being from south Louisiana, when I first started researching the family, I thought it was something like Shabare, but a south Louisiana friend told it's pronounced Zsabare there, sort of like ZsaZsa Gabor.

I just attended my husband's family reunion in Covington last week. We ate at the Acme twice!!! Scrumptious gumbo. I had forgotten I have a family connection to it. Sure wish your cousin could be found to ask for copies of the photos. I'd be willing to pay for the copying and postage. Livvy

Can you tell me how you have traced your family to Bordeaux? I have tried everything attempting to trace Victoire Arnaud and Philippe Paul Chabert' s roots in France? They would be my g.g.g.g. grandparents.

Thank you,
Carol Wright

The correct French pronunciation ( I speak French fluently), is like "shabear".

I think my friend from Houma is going by how they pronounce the name there for the Leonard Chabert Medical Center in Houma. So far I have not been able to connect the Chaberts outside of New Orleans to those in New Orleans, those descended from Philippe and Victoire Chabert, for example, those in Cutoff, La, and even Leonard Chabert, who was a state senator or representative, something like that.

I forgot to mention that a different version of French is spoken in Louisiana, usually known as Cajun French, which is why it's probably pronounced Zsabare here. But this might give us a clue to finding more about our Chaberts.

I am the ggg grandaughter of Philippe Paul Chabert and Victoire Arnaud. I am the gg grandaughter of Irma Marie Chabert and David Bradbury. I am the g grandaughter of Victor Bradbury (one of their sons) and the grandaughter of Owen Bradbury. Just beginning this research project. However, have not been successful in tracing any further back than Philippe and Victoire. Also, have not located any of David Bradbury's ancestry other then he was from Baltimore, Maryland.

I've gathered info on the descendants of Philippe and Victoire but haven't been able to get anything on the ancestors of Philippe and Victoire. I have found a sketch of David Bradbury which I posted on Ancestry. He was a chief engineer of the NO fire department. This was the one family story I had heard about him, but it turned out not to be exactly as I had heard it. I'll be glad to send you what I've collected. Just send me your email. Mine is traintulip@bellsouth.net. My grandmother, Irma, was the daughter of Stephen Bradbury, son of David. Let's compare what we know.

I am the ggg grandaughter of Victoire, the gg grandaughter of Anastasie Pauline, and the g grandaughter of Amelie who married Gustav Hyver. I have searched endlessly for information regarding the ancestry of Victoire and Philippe. I have even written or E-mailed churches in the south of France hoping to find some info. I always reach dead ends. I have not been able to even find out when they came over from France, or any immigration records. If anyone has this information, I would certainly appreciate it.
