My grandfather came to San Francisco around 1889 from the Ukraine via France and New York. He passed on a hearing-loss gene. If any of this sounds familiar to you, let me know.

Hello! My great grandfather came from Warsaw and was Hyman Chaban. I found a Moses Chaban in the Ellis Island Records that appears to be around the right date. But have found no other information. He married twice. Once to my great grandmother : Rosa Ratzker, also came from Warsaw and then married Esther (unsure of last name). He lived in NY his entire life once he arrived. Any relation?
