My grandfather Edmond Dante Cevasco was born in Genoa, Italy in 1899. His parents were Maria and Giovani. He immigrated as a boy to Boston, Mass and later moved to Akron, OH where his father was killed in an industrial accident. I plan to go to Genoa this summer to pick up the trail. If anyone can add to the puzzel please contact me ASAP

My grandfather was born in Genoa in 1899 ( Italo ) to Giovanni and Maria. They sailed to Boston about 1905. The Cevasco name is uncommon in the USA. I estimate less than 400. I suspect the Cevasco name is very old possibly of Basque origin but I have documentation of a Cevasco family crest dating to 1745 described as: bandato di rosso e d'argento. al capo d'azzurro a tre rose di rosso.

please relay any further information.

Thank you very much for the info,I will do some searches in that direction!Regarding your grandfather what I can say is that the surname Cevasco is widely popular in Genoa.Especially in a little village over the hills of Genoa called Bargagli where the 90% of the inhabitans have the same surname. My grandfather was born around1910 and unfortunately he died around 15 years ago.I don't know very much about my grandgrandfather and I assume he would be the same generation as yours.I beliave there must be some connections with seafarers as I recalled my grandfather mentioning Argentina and that would make sense as Genoa is a big harbour. Can you tell me more abou the coat with silver and red?

Thank you .Hope to hear from you soon

I hope you didn't misunderstand about the coat. I was referring to a family crest or coat of arms. I found this in an old book of Italian heraldry in Salt Lake City, Utah geneological libray. listed:
#214 CEVASCO
Famiglia ascritta in Nobilta nel 1745( family established as nobility in the year 1745) Arma - Bandato di rosso e d'argento.( coat of arms - banded diagonally with red on the viewer's left and silver on the right.) al capo d'azzurro a tre rose di rosso. ( at the top is a band of blue with 3 red roses).
I have been to the city and vicinity of Genova twice. I camped in hills above the city of Bargagli. I also found many references to famous scultore Giovanni Batista Cevasco 1817 - 1891 and visited the cemetary Stalleno where some of his work can be seen. My great grand father was Giovanni 12/25/1875 - 11/20/1915. My great great grandfather was Tomaso. That is all I know. Anything else you can tell me about the family would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Luis,
thank-you for your reply. My grand-father came from Genoa in 1904 , his name was Italo and later named Edmund Dante. He was the son of Giovani and Maria Albertini. It seems that the greatest concentration of Cevasco's is in Bargagli. If you know of the origins prior to the 18th century of the family. I would really appreciate it.

Merry Christmas Luis and to all Cevasco s
May the Lord of Peace bless you and your family.
