My father's name was Paul B. Cesan, and his father's name was James. My great-grandfather lived in Massachusetts. Would anyone have information about the Cesans?

Ann, I realize this is several years after your original posted message however, I am looking for information regarding James John Cesan, a minister in MA. He married Louisa Chisholm. Their daughter Rebecca, b. 1903 d. 1929 is my grandmother. Would we be looking for info on the same James John Cesan?

Beth, There is a recently issued a book, "Agawam and Feeding Hills Revisited" that has a photo of your Cesan family at their old homestead. I bought the book from a near by Barnes & Noble. The gravestone for James and Louisa is prominent in the Springfield St. Cemetery in Feeding Hills, MA. You could most likely get their death records from the Agawam Town Records. James and Louisa came to MA about 1900 from Canada (James born in Italy). The whole family is listed in the 1910 MA, Hampden Co., Agawam Census. Hope this helps. Janet Ross

Ann, your grandparents, James and Louisa (Chisholm) Cesan are buried in the Springfield St. Cemetery, Feeding Hills, MA, along with Paul and a young sibling. This Cesan family is in the 1910 Agawam, Hampden, MA Census. Jamees and family came to MA about 1900 from Canada (James b. Italy). There is a new paper-back book out (bought it at local Barnes & Noble), "Agawam & Feeding Hills Revisited" showing a nice photo of this Cesan family at there old homestead. Paul's brother's daughter, Anita (Cesan) Rising, recently died (dau. of Daniel) still living in the old homestead on Shoemaker Lane. Hope this helps...........Janet Ross

Hi Blueparrot, You and I would be cousins as Rebecca's brother David E. Cesan was my grandfather. David W. Cesan

Hi David, Yes, we are cousins! Thanks for the contact. I met a Agawam police officer named Cesan years ago when I went to report an accident. Otherwise I was not aware of the Cesan's being my relatives until I was grown and out of state. Too bad! I've been working on the genealogy of the Cesan family. I have traced the Italian line and need to get back to the Scottish Chisholm and Canadian lines. Any info would be appreciated. I have purchased the books written about Feeding Hills and have found them quite interesting. Those books are now in my mother's (Joyce, Rebecca's daughter)possession. Meanwhile, happy new year to you and yours. Beth E. Chism
