Any other Celaya's here from PHX/Tucson? My father is Fernando V. Celaya ...My grandfather was Frank Parra Celaya and His father was Frederico Celaya. I am looking for more information about 2 of his daughter which were nuns @ a convent in Tucson? Any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be great! :)

I don't know about 2 daughters being nuns, but I do know about a federico Celaya Celaya from Atil, Sonora. I don't know alot about this family, but I have been trying to learn more about this branch of the tree.

Federico Celaya was my grandfather, Andronico's brother. If the same Federico, two of his sisters were nuns. Actually 3, but one did not stay very long. You may have this info by now. Check out our family tree. Bev Young

I finally found Andronico and Federico Celaya. Refugio was one of the daughters that was a nun. Who were the other two?

Re: Celaya fam from Tucson Via Mexico
Yes, Refugio was Sister Rosalina, a lifelong nun until she died. The other two were her sisters, Elisita and Mercy. Elisita never married. They were the 3 daughters of Jesus Maria and his first wife, Refugio or Refugia. I am having trouble finding information about her or her family. But the story in the family is that when Jesus Maria knew he was not well and may die, he asked his son, Jesus Maria (JM), my grandfather, Andronico's brother to make sure the girls were taken care of before he married. So he postponed marrying to get his sisters into the convent. Another version of the story I heard from my mother was that the girls joined the convent to get away from the step-mother.
I see you have taken some photos from our tree and I am happy to share. You will see photos of all 3 of my grandfather's sisters there. If you have any information about my great-grandmother Refugio, I would appreciate anything! Bev Young

Re: Celaya fam from Tucson Via Mexico
The nuns were my aunts. Actually there were three sisters who entered the convent of IHM. Mercedes, Elisa and Socoro(Cuca) Celaya. Long interesting history. Sister Rosalina (Cuca) went to Cuba in 1936 + - She returned to Tucson when Fidel took over Cuba. I have all of her history and pictures. She died in Tucson. Elisa (Sister Angela) left IHM in 1936 went to Los Angeles never married. She died in Tucson. I was at her funeral. Mercedes, who entered first, I can not discuss with a stranger. She married Luis Duran; had a son Esteban Rudolfo my cousin Ralph/Steve. I never met your great grandfather Federico Celaya. I have pictures of him. I know nothing about him, he dissipated from family very early on. Luis Celaya 707 972 3243

Re: Celaya fam from Tucson Via Mexico
Mercedes and Elisa. Refugio was oldest then Elisa and Mercedes. Refugio entered IHM last as she had responsibilities for siblings after mother died. Jesus Maria Celaya, their fatherm remarred Ignaica Valenzuela . We have an interesting and long history in Tucon and Mexico. My grand parents are buried in Tucson. I have a photograph of the 3 sisters in nun habits. Mercedes was a gifted pianist and was sent to Boston to study. I have her sheep skin. Elisa was a very good artist. I have 3 paintings of hers. Elisa worked with the Indian children at Topawa Reservation. When Refugio returned to USA from Cuba, she and I were very close; she taught at a girls school in Pinar del Rio Cuba. I was there 5 years ago. She taught secretarial skills.
