Hi Bert! We talk sometimes on facebook.
I haven't seen Rafael in almost 5 years. Do you know if he ever figured out who were the first "Celayas" in Atil? I was always curious who the first Celayas were, and I heard that they were brothers or cousins that were given land by Spain during the colonization of New Spain (Mexico).
thanks.

Hi!
I have been researching the Celayas of northern Sonora, Mexico for the last 6-7 years. I am interested in who and when they left the Basque area, and travelled to Mexico, and who/where/when they arrived in northern Sonora.
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Celaya and Sotelo
Good evening, Dave. I do not know much about our Celaya branch. Our ancestor was Josepha Celaya who married Ramon Sotelo. The time period would have been late 1700s - early 1800s in Mexico. I have been reading a little about the Basques. Any information you may have on her line is very appreciated. Thanks, Carol.

Hi Tom,
I am also working on the history of the Celaya family. I have heard a few items about a pair of cousins that helped start the Celaya family around the Atil area. I am slowly working my way back through all the Atil information that I can find.
I would consider Atil to be the Capital for the Celaya family in Sonora. I have also have some relatives that are "mixed" with the Reynas. Good luck with your research.
