The Celaya family in Caborca/ Atil/ Pitiquito and Saric

Surnames: Celaya/ Gonzalez/ Ortega/ Ruiz/ Yeomans (Thatcher)
I trying to locate any information regarding the Celaya family in Northern Sonora. Mi Suegro (Mother-in-law) has Celaya, Ruiz, Yeomans, and Ortega in her background. In fact her grandfather was Ramon Celaya who married Francisca Ortega (Dates unknown). Remon's father and mother (we believe are Jose Maria Celaya and Carmen Valencia). Francisa Ortega's parents (again, we believe) are Rafael Ortega and Refugio Maldonado. This was on her father's side. Her mother's side, her grandmother was Carmen Ruiz and her father (we believe) was Santiago Yeomans (whose father or grandfather came from England).

My father-in-law's grandparents are Francisco Celaya and Teresa Gonzales (father's side) and Salvador Selaya and Carmen Celaya (mother's side). Again no dates.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

If your Ramon is the son of Jose Maria Celaya b. 1845 Chr. 27 Jul 1845 in Magdalena, Mexico and Carmen Valencia he was born Jose Antonio "Ramon" Valencia Celaya circa 1858 in Altar, Sonora, Mexico. If this is your line, then I would love to trade information with you. I have been researching the Celaya line for years now. They were/are a big family! HOpe to hear from you.

Ramon born in 1858 is my mother-in-law's grandfather. Jose M Celaya was her Great-Grandfather, but I didn't know his birthdate. If his birthdate is correct, and his baptism, then it will be easier for me to go to the church and obtain copies of the original documentation. How are you related to this individual? I am thinking of writing a book about the subject. Glad to help any way I can.

I am in Mesa, Arizona. As you have found out, my wife is a pure Celaya. Celaya on both her mom and dad's side. I just started researching the Celayas, but have some copies of birth certificates, baptisms, and death certificates. With dates, I can go to Mexico and get the original documentation that is in some of the LDS records. They look great, but its hard to copy. I know exactly where the church (Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe) is located. Also, my wife's family is now interested, and would be happy to help me get various documents.

In an earlier post, you wanted to know Refugio's last name. Per documents that I have, its Maldonado. I have no dates yet, but like I said earlier, Once I find the original documents it will lead me to other dates and I can get those documents.

I am sorry, but I gave you the wrong name for Refugio. There is another "Refugio" on my father-in-law's side. The Good news is that you gave me a "Missing link" that connects my wife's line of Celaya to the Celayas of Florence, Arizona. Thank you!!

Carmen and Salvador Celaya are related to my wife's family. Also, they were God Parents to some people in my wife's family as well.

I even have some docuements showing the Godparents status (circa mid to late 1800s). I may even have some other documents regarding Salvadore and Carmen Celaya.

Great to hear from you!! I would like to talk to you more off line to share info. My address is milagro310@gmail.com.

Thanks.
