Gideon Cedar, born Nov 1874 in Sweden; died 15 Apr 1944 in Cook Co., IL1.
Notes for Gideon Cedar:
Gidion Cedar came to America on the ship Teutonic from Granna, Sweden via Liverpool, England on November 23, 1899. He states that he is a laborer and is joining his brother Carl Ceder, 10852 State Street, Chicago, Illinois. He was 25 years old and single. This record may be found in the Ellis Island ship manafests.
See Charles Ceder for the 1900 Census report. "Gidion", brother of Charles, was listed as living with him at 10859 Shade St., Chicago, IL.
Immigration: 1899

Charles F. Cedar was born Oct 1859 in Sweden. He married Alma Sophia Lonnegren 25 Nov 1885 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, daughter of Carl Lonnegren and Jeanette Moll. She was born 11 Dec 1850 in Pjatteryd Parish, Smaland Province, Sweden.
Notes for Charles F. Cedar:
Charles' name is spelled Ceder or Cedar in various Swedish and American records. Not much is known about Charles except what was told by Inez Courtney Lonnegren, wife of Edward Lonnegren, Jr. She and Ed would visit a Charles Cedar who lived in Tacoma, Washington. This Charles is said to be related to Ed, possibly he was a son or grandson of Charles the Immigrant. This younger Charles was evidently well off, was a member of a Country Club and played golf. He is said to have been the President of a Bank (or perhaps just a banker) and was married twice, the second time to a wealthy woman who had two children. One of the wives, probably the first, was Swedish and wanted to go back to Sweden. She may have done so. Charles and his second wife were know to give very formal dinners.
Charles Cedar, the immigrant, is believed to be Carl Edward Frederick Lonnegren's "Uncle". According to family verbal history, Carl Edward was brought to America by two Uncles, possibly Charles and Gideon Cedar. These brothers are said to have gone into the lumber business in Seattle, Washington. It has been shown in Swedish records that Carl Edward was left behind when his parents, Victor Lonnegren and Carolina Peterson, immigrated to America in 1881. Edward then came to America either in 1885 at the age of 8 or in 1894 at the age of 16 or 17. Since Charles Cedar immigrated in 1879, he would have had to go back to Sweden to get Carl Edward. There are two other male Cedars who may have "fetched" young Carl Edward, Gideon and Augustus Cedar. Gideon is proven to be Charles' brother. More work needs to be done on Augustus.
Charles Cedar is on the Voter's Registration List of Chicago, 1892:
Chas. Ceder, 10855 State St., born in Sweden, lived in Chicago for 1 year, in Cook County for 13 years, and in Illinois for 13 years. He was naturalized in October, 1892.
Charles Cedar and his wife Sophie left Illinois and moved to Washington between 1914 and 1920. In the 1920 Wasington Census, their grandsons, Steven and Ralph Amberg, were living with them.
It seems very likely that the Sophia Alm that married this Charles Cedar is the sister of Victor Lonnegren. Sophia probably changed her name to Sophia Alm when she came to America. This was not uncommon. The names of her children, Alma and Carl, match family names. Also, her son Carl may have been the "Charles" that Inez and Ed Lonnegren visited in Washington. The movement of this family of Cedars, found first in Chicago, Illinois and later in Washington, match the family verbal history. More research needs to be done, however, to verify that this is indeed the family of Cedars talked about.
