Classification: Query
Surnames: CEASE/SEASE, WOODARD, HOWE, COOLEY
Stephen Sease\Cease was sopposed to have been born in Armenia, Bradford County, Pennsylvania about 1825. This information is from his childrens death certificate so could be incorrect. He was living in Columbia, Bradford County Pa. when he married Alsada Woodard on February 21, 1845 in Pa. According to his daughter Mary's widow application. This was Mary Cease Newell’s statement on the application concerning her parents:
Dictated in Elmira, Chemung County, New York on March 21st. 1917 to the Commander of pensions. “ I Mary Adelaide Newell was born in the town Armenia in Bradford County, Pennsylvania on the 7th Day of March 1846. I write this to answer questions put to me on the names of my parents, brothers and sisters. I hereby state my fathers name is Stephen Cease and my mothers name is Alzadia Woodard. In the year 1850 and when I was about 3 or 4 years of age, my father and mother separated. I do not know whether it was just before or just after 1850, they always or rather continued to live in the town of Sullivan, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. But in 3 or 4 years after said separation they were divorced from each other and my mother remarried to a man of the name Henry G. Buck about 1857 and my father went away out of state. And my mother or myself never saw him again after they separated. Just after 1860 I am sure that I lived with my Aunt Mrs. Eli G. McConnell (which was her husbands name) Lydia, in said town until I was about 19 years of age at which time I married my said husband Ferdinand Newell on July 9, 1865 by Rev. Robert M. McWood in Mainesburg in said County. I only had one true brother; Daniel A. Cease (and no true sisters) Daniel lived and bond out to a Mr. Parshall in said town.
After the war Daniel lived in said town with his wife Rose Ann. The above are the true facts of my case. And hoping it will be satisfactory. “
I am truly yours
Mary Adelaide Newell of 505 W. Hudson Ct., Elmira, New York

Mary Cease further stated that her father was Stephen Cease and he was born in either Troy or Armenia in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Her mother was Alzadia Woodard born in Columbia Cross Roads, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. After the divorce of Stephen Cease and Alzadia in the mid 1850’s, Alzada married a second time to Henry G. Buck.
I do not know where the divorce took place. I cannot find any other information. Could he be the son of Alexander Sease? I have seen a Stephen in Illinois about this age but he looks to have been married to his wife earlier than this marriage with alsad. Does any one have a Stephen Sease/Cease that had a daughter Mary Adalaide born in 1846 and a son Daniel Andrew Sease/Cease born in 1848? I would appriciate ANY help.
