Ceasars of Dominica

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the Ceasars of Dominica. I have heard that many Ceasars (all spellings) have native roots. I was under the impression that there is some Spanish history related to the name. My great-grandfather was Theodore Ceasar. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I have researched my Ceaser line for 24 years, they originated in Senegal, West Africa and pretty much resided in Louisiana. Sorry I couldn't help. But if in my travels I hear anything of any of them being from or in Dominica I will let you know.

Hi there!

Thank you for your reply. Senegal? That is very interesting. I had no idea that a descendant of slaves could research their history back to the specific West African Country.

I assume that you are of Creole descent. Dominica was initially a Spanish Colony, then a French Colony, and finally a British Colony. The Louisiana connection is interesting because I have read that people (French and Native American) used to travel from Louisiana to Dominica during French colonization, some settled there.

My research has just begun. I will update this thread as I find out more information. Good luck on your genealogical quest.

Again, thank you.
