Hi Roger, Maybe you are "here" to help some of us find our connections. My Cearns family line has been very difficult to trace. I have such limited information. My oldest know Cearns is Henry (Harry) Cearns who was born in England about 1837. He died in New Orleans, Louisiana USA in January 1878. He was married to Catherine"Kate" Lynch, born in county Westmeath Ireland about 1843. She died in New Orleans in 1896. Kate was about 15 when she arrived in New Orleans. Don't know if that was off the boat, or if she lived somewhere else in the US before that. Don't have a clue about Harry's history.
Their children were Henry (b. 1861/62); Annie (b. 1864/65); Mary Ellen (b. Nov. 1869 d July 1930); Joseph J. (b. July 1870-d. April 1920); Eliza(beth) (b. 1873/74); and a premature infant born/died July 1877.
With this information are you able to recognize any names and supply any answers to questions about this family group? For the researchers of Cearns who immigrated to the US, or North America, do you have any other information you can share on this site that might help direct other researchers?

I am looking for info on Margaret Cearns, the daughter of Bernard Cearns and Alice Ponder, born about 1825 in Liverpool, England. She died on December 6, 1900 in New Orleans, La. She married Philip Watson Child in 1840 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. They had at least two children (Alice Cearns Child, born July 29, 1842 in New Orleans, and Daucas Child, born April 11, 1846, in New Orleans. They may have had other children also. I believe Margaret Cearns had a brother named Henry Cearns, born about 1837. Any info on any of the above would be appreciated.

My name is Elvernon Fred Cearns III I have no idea where to start on my family lineage. I only know that the origin is Irish and that is the extent of it...my grandfather Elvernon the senior is unknown to me as he has never been in our families life.... any direction or knowledge of the crest, colors, kilt, clan...anything would be appreciated. I also hope my name sparks something somewhere to help the cause...thanks.

Hello. Your post is from January, so you may have already made some progress searching for family line. I have a cousin here in California, aged mid-fifties, his name is Elvernon Cearns....but we always called him "Freddy". I believe his father was also Elvernon, but he took off when Freddy and his siblings were very small. I have not seen or spoken with Freddy since we were kid, so I have no contact with him at all. I believe his father was in the military, and the family lived for a while in Nebraska. Freddy's Mom, my Aunt, is called "Lee", but her maiden name was Leonilia Sauceda...from Los Indios Texas. Hope this helps in some way. Good luck to you.

Hi Roger,
I'm interested in anything you might have ... I also have a lot of information which might fill in gaps for you..
My mother is a Cearns, and her branch originated in Deptford, Kent and were tied to the East India Company, so have a long history in India up to 1930's... After that, the family spread to the USA, Australia and Canada..
Cheers,
Kevin
