We have just found a legal notation RE: William Carley the Mariner, and a John Carter in English naval records -
WILLIAM the MARINER WHO TOOK A JOHN CARTER FROM LONDON AGAINST POPPLE ORDERS IN 1722
Boston April 12th 1722
Note subscribed by captain james stewart hms .Winchester.to the bond of William carley master of the sloop popple of boston.I am very credibly informed that the above mentioned carley did carry away from hence, one john carter belonging to the four brothers, john squarry master, and then incurred the penalty of said bond.
Can anyone find any further information??
