A few years ago I was sent a copy of May Strickland's memoirs RE: her grandfather George L. Carley. In the past few days I have been able to connect George's father Job to my side of the Carley family and it is as follows.
May mentions Job Carley, father of George Lewis Carley. George was the son of Job and Hannah Lewis Carley. Job, b. Feb. 24, 1754 in Wilton, Fairfield, CT, was the son of Abraham and the Susannah Unknown who married Thaddeus Gray in Westport, Fairfield, CT in Feb. of 1759. Abraham, b @ 1732, was the son of John and Sarah Sherwood Carley of Westport. John, b. 1706, in either Boston or Glouster, MA was the son of Seaman William and Mary Bowden/Boaden Carley and the brother of William Cearley, later of NC. Seaman William was born @ 1684 in either Glouster, MA or York, ME to Joseph Carlile/Kerley and Elizabeth Bean/Bane. Joseph was the son of Capt. Henry and Elizabeth White Kerley of whom there has always been speculation as to whether he was killed along with his mother and two older brothers in the Massacre at Marlborough, MA in 1676 . Capt. Henry, b. 1632 in Ashmore, Devon, Eng to William (the Emigrant) and first wife, Ann King.
I know there has been a great deal of confusion over the two couples of Abraham and Susannah but you will find Job's name listed in the CT History by Daniel Lines Jacobus. He had fought in the French & Indian War but died of unrelated causes.
Job had siblings Sarah b ?, Joel b 1748 m. Elshe Stever, Martha b. 1750, Albert A. b 175? m Hannah Covey, and Johnathan b. 1757 m Jenny Gray. The other, older Abraham - (Abraham and Susannah Brookins Carley), was a brother of John's and therefore also a son of Seaman William and Mary Boaden Carley. Mary Boaden was the daughter of John and Grace Bully Boaden and granddaughter of Capt. Ambrose and Marie Letheridge Boaden. Ambrose was one of the first settlers in Scarborough/Saco, ME @ 1630.
The younger Abraham's wife Susannah ? married secondly Thaddeus Gray who was the son of Sarah Sherwood Carley's mother Sarah Meeker's sister, Elizabeth Meeker. Elizabeth was married to William Gray.

I also saw a 2003 message by you on the Benton Co AR site and am interested in the parents/siblings of Safronia Ford Cearley. I am not a descendant but believe that her step-mother is a collateral line of my husband.

Martha

Elizabeth -- I'm not sure whether I ever saw your message and/or responded - but yes, the children of Mariner William and Mary Bowden Carley are, as best I can determine -
Joseph, b. 1704/5; John, b. 1706; Abraham, b. 1711; James and Sarah, both baptised October 23, 1715; William, Jr and Job, both baptised September 18, 1717; Mary b @ 1718.
Most of these children have been previously attributed to Bartholomew and Hannah, William the Mariner's half brother, but most of these dates are out of range of Hannah's being the mother, and we've only recently discovered William and Mary thanks to the publishing of marriages by Cotton Mather at Boston - that's where Mary's mother Grace Bully Bowden, widow of John, was living at the time of the marriage.
All of the names of these children appear in the line-up of names in their own children's lines later in time.

I think I sent you the information re: William Carley of the sloop Popple had transported a John Carter out of London in the year 1722 - evidently against orders - this was probably the father of Martha Patty. There is a John attributed to Samuel Carter of the family that purchased to home of William Kerly the Immigrant in Lancaster, but that John is supposed to have died at an early age -- can find no other who would be around by then. Have you found anything?
