Help me solve this mystery?

Isn't it interesting that both JOhn (1831) and William (1855) both heads of households in the 1880 Census, both had fathers born in New Jersey, yet we can find no record of Cazalets in NJ???? William's mother was also born in NJ. How frustrating!!!

Thank you for looking in the 1860 and 1870 indices. Perhaps it is a spelling problem. I have seen it spelled Casalet, Caslett, Cezalet, Ceselet, Corlett, Cozlet, Cozalet, Cazalz, Cazeale. I've seen all of those and more sometimes they add another t and another e on the end Cazalette. For an unusual name, it's difficult to find spelled correctly.

Not sure if this is a stretch or what (have seen worse mis-spellings of names) but there is a family named Hazelet in NJ during this time.

Rhonda,
I am very interested in the Cazalet name. My gg grandfather was listed in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 NY Census as John Cazlett. His father was born in New Jersey, according to the census. He was born in Ny in either 1828 or 1831. He had a brother or cousin named William, who was born in New Jersey. I haven't been able to find any Cazalets in New Jersey records. Maybe Hazelet would work.

Hi David,
I have a Margeret P Hazelett in my tree, her family is elusive in NJ. It seems a feasible connection phonetically. I may be able to get you in touch with a Hazelett researcher and will pass on whatever I might have. Feel free to e-mail me at rhonda_shoemaker@hotmail.com
