North Bangor — Leonard "Joe" Cayea, 62, of Anderson Road, North Bangor, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y.

He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on June 10, 1940, the son of Lawrence and Julia (Gregory) Cayea.

Mr. Cayea is survived by Leona, his wife of 32 years; his children, William Cayea of Madrid, N.Y., Latisia and Skip Houston of Tupper Lake, Cristine Fiore of Malone and Letitia and John Coons of Minnesota; Three sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Donald Jabaut of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Wanda and David Paliani of Rochester and Debra and Douglas Grogan of Ellenburg, N.Y.; Three brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Margaret Cayea of Ellenburg, Lawrence and Sharon Cayea of Ellenburg, N.Y., and Gary and Martha Cayea of Ellenburg, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oct. 13, 1966, and his mother, March 2, 2001.

Mr. Cayea was employed at Harlem Valley State Hospital, Wingdale, N.Y., for 37 years as mental health therapy aid, retiring in 1995, moving to North Bangor to make his home.

He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in November 1957 and was honorably discharged in April 1961.

For many years he served as an altar boy at St. Edmund’s Church. "Joe" was an avid hunter and enjoyed being in the woods.

His memberships included New York State American Legion Post 1, National Rifle Association and "32" Hunting Club.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 02, 2002, in St. Edmund’s Church, Ellenburg, with Rev. Joseph Wheelock officiating. Cremation will take place at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Ellenburg Depot.

Donations in his memory may be made to The Hope Lodge in care of Fletcher Allen Healthcare, Burlington, Vt.
