Family Name

I joined the Cawthorne Family Site several years back and at that time thought my research would soon lead to England and that spelling of my family name of Cothern. Now my book of Cothern Clan is up to 1,000 pages with the indexes and I have the following spelling of the names of our line:
Cothern (731 people), Cauthon (703), Cawthon (424), Cauthron (115), Cothran (87), Cothren (56), Cawthorn (44), Casthron (29) and Cothen, Cotheran, Cothon (2 each) and Cathon, Cathron, Caughthorn, Cauthan, Cauthorne, Cawthren, Cothorn, Cothram (1 each). So obviously Cawthorne IS NOT a good choice name for the site that I am in. It would be wonderful if all people with the various spellings of the name could be in ONE site so that information could be shared more readily. Any thought? Jean Rodwick

I began researching my Cothran family line abt 6 months ago and would love to connect them. My grandmother Margaret Clary Phillips was born in 1919 in Fingerville S.C to parents June Clyde Clary and Carrie Cothran Clary. Carrie's parents were Thomas Cothran and Margaret F ? and they had abt 11 children..Alexander J.W., Azzie, Carrie, Affie, Amelia, Manuel, Thomas,Willie Mae, and Fannie. I can't find any info abt Margaret F before she married Thomas. The story is that Carrie (my ggrandmother) was a Native American. My great uncle Lloyd Clary, is the only one of Carrie and June Clyde (J.C.)5 children who is still living and he says Carrie was Catawba or Creek. Carrie died at age 46 so I never met her. My Uncle Manuel is named after Manuel Cothran and says he remembers him looking just like "an indian in overalls". The stories I grew up with were so interesting but I'm becoming a bit disappointed that I cant verify any of them. If you have any research on the ppl or research I've mentioned please write me back. I'd really appreciate it. Almost forgot to mention that my Cothran family is from Spartanburg Campobello, Fingerville and surrounding areas.
