My father, Arthur John Cockaday (dob Nov 1914) had brothers Albert, Cecil, George and a sister Lillian. They lived in London Ontario Canada with a father, a shoemaker and their Mum whom I believe immigrated from Norfolk or Norwich. Cecil & George gave their life in WWWII and my dear Dad gave his body up to science - to the University of Toronto in 1969. Are we related?

My husbands grandfather is your father's cousin.
I am trying to trace all Cockadays! Yes they did come from Norwich, Norfolk, England.
I presume that your grandfather went to Canada in about 1909. Many individuals went over for a new and better life.
I have more information if you are interested. Let me know.
Not many Cockadays ventured out of Norfolk.

I have just read your message and my grandfather didn't go to canada, he stayed in Norfolk, England. I was wondering if we may be talking about two different famillies, if I give you some information. My grandads name was Issac Jacob Cockaday, he was born 1908, his father was of the same name and he married Lily grace Cawdron in 1932 at St Andrews register office. I am looking for information on Lily my grandmother who left my grandfather in 1946 and would love it if anyone had any information about her.

My apologies to you Shelley. I clicked on the Subject and the message was sent to you in error.
Thank you for the reply however. I am endeavouring to trace the family tree of the Cockadays and your information is very helpful.
Your Issac Jacob is related but not directly.
Again I apologise but wish you get luck in tracing your grandmother.
Best Wishes

Thankyou for your reply Amanda, I was talking to my mum today and she did say that a part of the family did go to canada could you tell me how we are related. It would be lovely to be able to put it together. You see I'm not sure how many brothers my grandfathers father had. He would have been my great grandfather and he was known as Issac Jacob Senior.

I am trying to trace a John Cockaday who married Emily Engall or Ingall around 1840.

Am also keen to know whether anyone knows of a connection by marriage of a John Cockaday and the Jerningham family of Costessey Hall.

Any info gratefully received.

Yes I do have a John Cockaday married to an Emily
1st chld born in 1841 approx. so I should think they married in 1840. Have not found this marriage yet. But thanks for the possible maiden name.
There are a number of John Cockadays born 1831!
Mine was born in 1821.
Could you give me some dates when you think the connection could have been made with the Jemingham family of Costessey Hall.
My John Cockaday lived with Emily in Museum Court Norwich
Does this ring any bells!
I will try and look for Emily Engall or Ingall. Is she who the connection is with?
Hope this is of some help.
Thanks

Reply to Amanda Cockaday.
We're on the same track. Emily Engall married John Cockaday in Oct/Nov/Dec 1840 in Blofield (Vol 13 Page 75). Have just sent off for marriage certificate. They had a daughter named Emily Ann born in 1842 who married John Robert Mann. I am trying to work backwards as I have been told that John Cockaday's father possibly married a daughter of Costessey Hall. Will inform you of any developments.
My interest stems from a sampler sewn by Emily Engall when she was 10 in 1831. It has been handed down through eldest daughters. I even named my own daughter Emily!
Would love to know about your branch of the family.
