My gt.grandfather was Samuel Cawdeary. His sister was Ann Hannah Cowderoy, then Maria, Ebenezer Edward CAWDRY, Hannah Thomas. Please note the different spellings of the surname. They were all born in or near Portsea, England. I would love to hear from anyone with this surname or any of these names in their families.

Pat, thank you for all the information you sent to me last year. I am currently entering all the Cawdeary information into the World Tree. I haven't found anything new since then, have you?
|
Hi Rob, yes I have some more information, and actually photocopied a hand-written family tree to post to you yesterday. I even have two scanned photos of the Cawdeary Hotel at Jubbulpore, India, courtesy of another family member. Are you still at the same address?
|
Good to here from you again Pat & Yes I'm still at the same address. If you have more info I would love to see it. I put together a couple of family photos & a copy of my birth cert. but I don't remember if I ever sent them to you? I was waiting for a copies of my parents birth & wedding certs but never received them. I think they were a bit nervous about sending them, although they never said as much. My Aunt Florence & Louise both died last year & my Aunt Lily (Alec Cawdeary's Wife) died a couple of weeks ago. Dad now only has his Sister Lily (Cox)still living. Dad was here in Oct & enjoyed reading all the info. you sent previously. The Last time I e-mailed Glen he hadn't been able to get any further info. from his side of the family and sounded a little frustrated.

I should never have suggested birth certificates, etc. Very foolish of me. I got carried away as I have been getting the older certificates in order to get further information. Age hasn't brought wisdom!! That was very wise of your parents. Regarding putting the information onto the Internet, I don't know about how far down the tree that should go, as there would be privacy constraints I would assume. What are you thinking of doing? Do you want to continue this discussion privately? My e-mail address is still the same. I wanted to share an earlier name with you, and perhaps as your family are in England, they may be able to research it further? Will wait to hear from you.

Cawdeary's Portsea, Hampshire, England
I am the grand daughter of Hannah Maria Cawdeary. She was the youngest of six children born to Samuel Cawdeary and Hannah Maria Watson. Her siblings were: Samuel James Watson b 1841; Mary Ann m Charles Green 1866; Thomas; Ebenezer Edward b 1847; and Ann Hannah b 1848, m Charles Cotton 1866. I would like to hear from anyone who has the Cawdeary's listed in their family tree.

Hi, I am so excited to hear from you about the Cawdeary name. My gt.grandfather was Samuel James Watson Cawdeary, Hannah's brother. He served on HMS "Amethyst" in the 2nd China War, and won the China Medal. I have been researching the Cawdeary family tree & have been in touch with another descendant of Samuel & Hannah's brother, Thomas. Another brother was Ebenezer, and there were two sisters named Maria and Ann Hannah. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Pat Bostock. Sydney, NSW. Australia.

Hi:
I was delighted to receive your reply. You must be very proud of your gt. grandfather's service record.
Hannah Maria married Edward Thomas Elliott, May 9, 1869 at St. Mary's Portsea and the witnesses were Mary Green, her sister, and her brother, Samuel. My father, Ernest Guy, was the youngest of their 10 children.
I have never been able to confirm any information on Thomas, possibly due to the variations in spelling the surname. However, I believe Ebenezer Edward married Elizabeth, yet to be confirmed.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Rosemary Wedepohl, Delta, B.C. Canada

I would be very interested in hearing from you regarding your family tree as Hannah Maria Cawdeary, born Portsea in 1845, was my grandmother.
Thanks, Rosemary Wedepohl

Hullo Rosemary, I hope that you have received the postcard I sent you. I have been waiting to get a reply from you to see whether I had the correct address. I checked the Canada Phone Book. Am going on holiday on 4th August. Regarding my gt.grandfather & the medal - I would suppose that everyone on the ship received one - I haven't actually researched what happened - he would have been a very junior seaman. As soon as I get a message from you, I will post the family tree that I have assembled. Hope to hear from you soon. Pat Bostock.
