Gerald, I would be very interested in your first hand information on the family. The Fees are all descendants of Sgt. Christopher Long, color sergant at Yorktown. Saw Cornwallis surrender his sword to General Washington. I am interested in all of the descendants of this family and am curious about the connections you mention. Any clarification or corrections would be appreciated.

OBITUARY in The Knoxville Journal or The Knoxville Express--

"Mrs. Celia Ann Caulkins died at the Collins Memorial hospital, aged 86 years, 2 months and 6 days. She entered the hospital Sunday, May 29, after spending the past few years in poor health.

"Celia Ann Fee, daughter of Joseph H. and Mary Terry Fee, was born April 3, 1863, at the family home west of Knoxville, being a pioneer daughter of Marion county pioneers. Her father came to this country 100 years ago at the age of 13 years with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher C. Fee, who settled west of Knoxville. Her mother, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Terry, was born in this county east of Knoxville. Her parents settled here before there was a single house within the present town of Knoxville.

"The deceased grew to young womanhood in the "Fee community" with a family of eight children, a brother, Stephen Fee, being the last surviving member of this family.

"On April 3, 1883, in Knoxville, the deceased was united in marriage to Lewis Allen Caulkins. He also was a representative of a pioneer family, that of Hiram and Rachel Caulkins. Practically all of the married life of Mr. and Mrs. Caulkins was spent on a farm south of Knoxville, where they maintained a home for more than sixty years.

"To Mr. and Mrs. Caulkins were born seven children, two of whom are deceased, Clark in 1893, and Mrs. Cora Myrtle Clark, in 1907. The surviving children are Walter I. Caulkins, of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Margaret Staggs, of Pomona, Calif, Mrs. Mary Stanley, of Longmont, Colo., Loren W. Caulkins, of Knoxville, and O.A. Caulkins, of Collins. There are also left twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren. A grandson, Harold Caulkins, was taken into the home when two years old, when his mother died, and he grew up as a son. Another grandson, Glen Caswell, also made his home with them for several years. Mr. Caulkins died December 15, 1944.

"In 1884, Mrs. Caulkins and her husband were baptized and joined the Christian church and during the many years of her active life was a faithful attendant to her church and its services.

"Funeral services will be held from the Christian church this (Thursday) afternoon at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. M. M. Pigg, a former pastor of the church. Interment will be in Graceland cemetery."

Notes for LEWIS ALLEN CAULKINS:

OBITUARY in The Knoxville Journal or The Knoxville Express---

"Lewis Allen Caulkins, son of Hiram and Rachel Stanley Caulkins, was born at the family home southeast of Knoxville, April 24, 1861, where with seven brothers and four sisters, he grew to young manhood, and was taught the frugality, economy and Christian spirit of the early pioneers. He was stricken by a cerebral hemorrhage, Sunday, Dec. 10, 1944, and remained in a coma until he died at 2 o'clock a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, aged 83 years, 7 months and 21 days. He passed away in the home in Knoxville which had recently been purchased and into which the family moved from the farm.

"At the age of 22 he was married to Celia Ann Fee April 3, 1883, at Knoxville. After spending the first two years at the family homestead, they settled south of Knoxville where for sixty years they maintained a home and reared their family. To this union were born seven children, two of whom preceded their father in death, Clarke, Jr., in 1893, at the age of two years, and Cora Myrtle Clarke in 1907, at the age of 23. Those surviving are Mrs. Maggie Staggs who has been making her home with her parents, Mrs. Mary Stanley, of Dallas, Walter I., and Lorin W., of Knoxville, and one grandson, Harold Caulkins, was taken into the home at the age of two years when his mother was taken by death and the love and care of an own son was given him. Another grandson, Glen Caswell, also made his home with them at various times. Besides the immediate family a brother, Samuel Caulkins of Knoxville, and a sister, Mrs. Alice King, of Des Moines, survive along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

"In 1894, during the ministry of the Rev. W.B. Crudeson, Mr. and Mrs. Caulkins were baptized and united with the Knoxville Christian church. A few years later when a small group of neighbors organized and constructed the Englewood Christian church, Mr. Caulkins gave many hours of time and labor and it was his family's church home for many years.

"Mr. Caulkins' death was the breaking of the ties of another pioneer family that for over 62 years had be[e]n united and which had grown to the fourth generation. "Grandpa," as he was known to 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, has left with them many precious and happy memories.

"Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the Christian church, conducted by the Rev. M. M. Pigg, and interment was made in the Graceland cemetery."
