Hello Douglass. I'm Geoff Vines. I posted that msg on the board 10 years ago. Thank you for responding. I have much more information. I'm not sure still how I'm related to Kit Carson. However I have found most of my ancestors on the Vines side are from Sundance WY and Spearfish ND. The Miller side, my Great Grandparents were Joseph and Helen (Lawrence) Miller. I've gotten as far back as my great great grandfather James Vines who came from Liberty MO with his wife son and his brother Joseph to Sundace WY in the 1870's. I found several land patents granting them 100's of acres of the Balck Hills Mountains. I've also learned from the librarian in Sundance, James and his wife owned a "dude ranch." Which was on a wagon trail. They would let travelers rest there and Mary was a teacher who held school for the passing through children. I hope this helps you find how I am related to Kit.
