I am looking for information on my greatx4-grandmother Joanna Carrico. She was born 1760 in Charles County, Maryland, and died in Randolph County, Illinois. She married Thomas Mudd, born 1768 in Charles County, Maryland, and died in Randolph County, Illinois. Their son, Francis W Mudd, was my greatx3-grandfather. Thomas Mudd was closely related to Dr. Samuel Mudd. Any info would be great.

I was told there was a man named Mudd, who was a guardian of Ann Kerrick and her siblings. I would love to find out more about this if someone should know the information. This would probably date back to late 1700's early 1800's. Thanks, Katherine

I looked up this info in the Mudd books. Thomas Mudd 1760/65 -after 1820 married Joanna Carrico in 1781/83. Her maiden name was also given as Carrick. She is referred to as "a little Irish girl." Her ancestors took part in the Rev. war. Thomas Mudd was guardian for Ann Kerrick who married Robert Heverin in Washington Co. Ky. 11-25-1797.

A member of St. Benedicts Congregation in Spencer Co. Ky. was Harrison Kerick-- possibly an uncle or grandfather of Thomas Harrison Mudd who was a son of Joanna and Thomas. No child named Ann was named. Maybe she was a sister of Thomas' wife.
Hope this helps.

I haven't been able before to be sure. Also, do you have any information about when my Thomas moved to Kentucky and then IL ? Thanks again. I am so grateful for your help. Kathleen

Thank you for your info! I have one question, however, that you may or may not know. How did the name Kerrick get changed to Carrico? The Carrico surname is of Portuguese origin and I'm not sure why an Irish family would have changed their surname to make it sound of Portuguese. Thank you again for your info; I am interested in the Mudds and Carricos.

I don't know that it did change to Carrico. According to the info I have Joanna's brother also marr a Carrico. To me that would seem to indicate that they are a different family.

Some researchers believed that because of the similarity it was likely that these were the same family. Given heavy accents and spelling abilities of those who recorded spoken names, many were misunderstood and changed.

I don't believe that enough Carrick/Kerrick and other variations of spelling have been DNA tested to prove such a connection.
