This is in reply to mwcarls’s (mcarls@suffolk.lib.ny.us) May 15, 2008, posting to the RootsWeb CARLOUGH Message Board titled, “Re: Edward F. CARLOUGH (1903 – 1985) of New York City, and Alexandria, VA.”
The word “nee” is used to identify a woman’s maiden name. If “Elizabeth ‘NEE’ Carlough” was instead written as “Elizabeth nee CARLOUGH,” it would mean that Elizabeth’s maiden name was CARLOUGH.
