I wish! But remember that Alexander died in 1856, so the liklihood of a photograph is less, although not impossible.

I do wish for more pictures from this group though. I descend from his two sons Weldon and Joseph. I've never found photos of them, though I'm sure they exist. Those boys didn't die until early in the 20th century!

Hi Cathy,

I am an adopted woman who found my birth mother 15 years ago. I have recently become very interested in my "family tree" and have discovered, through my "mom" that John Wesley Carico (a Methodist Minister) is my great great grandfather. I believe he is also your great grandfather. My great grandfather was James Thomas Carico.

Do you happen to have any interesting facts or history you could share with me? I find all this so fascinating.

I am not a regular member of Ancestry.com so if you would be kind enough to share anything you have, my email address is sarah.phelps@skofirm.com.

Thanks, Cathy!
Sarah

free DNA test for desc/o brothers Peter III and Thomas Ignatius

A member of the CARRICO Y-DNA Surname Project
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/DNA/Carrico/CarricoDNA.shtml
has made a very generous offer to fully fund 67-marker tests for two key CARRICO lineages:

Peter CARRICO III (1722- ), son of Peter CARRICO II:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Car/CarricoPeterIII-_.shtml

and his brother, Thomas Ignatius CARRICO (c1741-c1813):
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Car/CarricoThomasIgnatius-El...

These conditions apply: 1) that you are a male surnamed CARRICO or CARICO with a patrilineal (direct male line) descent from one of the above [no females can break the chain of descent]; 2) that you provide your paper genealogy in sufficient detail that the donor and the project admin are satisfied your connection is genuine; and 3) that you sign the Release allowing your results to be publicly shared. (Note that publicly sharing your results does not mean publicly sharing your identity.)

You have the option of two levels of privacy. You can be tested as an "Anonymous CARRICO" with the project admin serving as the contact person for your account. In this case, only the project admin and the donor necessarily need know who you are, but I strongly discourage this level of secrecy. Rather, I would suggest the standard level of privacy, in which your name and email address are shared, but only privately and only with those for whom you are a DNA match (i.e., other CARRICOs who have also been tested). Either option provides you with public anonymity.

Personally, I do not see the need for any level of privacy, and I show my complete DNA test results, including my mtDNA FGS (full genetic sequence) online:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/DNA/mtDNA-T-haplotree-DGM.shtml

But I do and will respect the wishes of anyone preferring to maintain their privacy.

Each of these subsidies is a testing value worth hundreds of dollars. Only one test per ancestor is being offered, so in each case, the first person to contact me who fulfills the conditions gets the test.

Diana Gale Matthiesen
CARRICO Y-DNA Surname Project Group Administrator

How do you know that James D. is the son of Abel & Ibby? I asked because I believe my ggrandfather Henry H. Carico was also a son of Abel & Ibby but haven't found any proof. I keep hoping for a family bible to turn up. Anyway, I am wondering if you do have something like a family bible or is it family oral history?

Also, I show that James D. was born a month before Abel & Ibby married. Any explanation on that? Henry was b. in Feb 1820 and died in 1912. Thanks for any help, Candace

I read Gaines as James. If you also check the 1910 census, you come up with a total of four grandchildren for Margaret Emily __?__, wife of James A. CARRICO (birth/death dates from the SSDI):

1. Isley R. CARRICO, b. 17 Feb 1905; d. 23 Jan 1992; m. Nannie GILLENWATER
2. Audley L. CARRICO, b. 16 Sep 1907; d. 7 Oct 1993; m. Rosa Ellen PETERS
3. Alonzo M. CARRICO, b. 1 Jan 1912; d. Aug 1975
4. James H. CARRICO, b. 15 Apr 1918; d. 13 Feb 2000

I suspect all four are the illegitimate children of Margaret's unmarried daughter, Mary E. CARRICO (b. Nov 1884, VA). I can find Margaret Emily in 1920, but not her daughter or grandchildren. For all I have at the moment, please see this family group sheet at my web site:

http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Car/CarricoJamesA-MargaretEm...
I do wish I could help you. We must be from different families but I'm sure our families are related somewhere back "there". I couldn't find any reference to Luther Carico but read of a nancy and An Ida but they were children of Samuel Carico. If there is any other way I can help you, let me know. The book i have is called "Unto These Hills" by Belva Marshall Counts. I'm sure it's out of print and the only people that would want it were the families listed. Some of the families were Wells, Stallard, Carico, Hillman, Edwards, and Newberry.
Cathy

My father's only brother was Luther Carico. He died as a young man of meningitis but had a son named Luther Jr. There were 8 sisters-not in order (Bessie, Cora, Emma, Ida,Lillie, Minnie, Nancy, and Nettie). I remember Bessie, Nettie and Ida. I visited Ida in Baltimore about 30 years ago but since my father was one of the younger children in his family and I am the youngest in mine, I don't remember many of his siblings since I was a young child. I really need to get the book!

I
remember years ago when I was young I meet a William Carico and as I remember he was a cousin to my Grandfather James Thomas Carico. He was an old man even for my young brain (lol). My Mother taught school in a one room school house on Sandy Ridge. I'm a Dental Hygienist and was working on a patient. I asked where she was from and see said Sandy Ridge. Found out her mother was a Carico, and her Aunt wrote the book "Unto These Hills"

Yes, there are 2 John Wesley Caricos (actually 3-my brother named his son John Wesley-about 1 yr old now). My grandfather is Fielden Aaron (some say Arthur but his name was Aaron) married to Martha Catherine Horne. My g grandfather is William D. Carico married to Catherine I. Cooper. William's father was Abel Carico married to Isabella Stephenson. I grew up near Pound, VA but my father's family was from the Sandy Ridge area of Coeburn. I still live in Wise. Thanks for the response. Gail

My Dad could probably tell you some things about your Dad as a young boy/teenager. I think after entering the service, they all basically went their separate ways. He did mention getting together and playing someone's organ.and singing. His mother, my grandmother, was quite the talented one musically. I have the gift of appreciation of others talents but nothing to brag about. . Did you grow up with your Mom's side of the family? My grandfather Carico tried to adopt me but the Courts wouldn't let them. My Grandmother always said it was because they were known of in the community and they thought they had spoiled my Dad -- also they were older. I knew some about each side of my family but not a great deal.

I live in Mississippi; my father was Robert Martin, -[ son of Robert Glenn] but I never really knew him either [the same thing, divorces, etc.] I am just getting started in this genealogy 'quest' mostly because I wanted to know more about him. I have learned quite a bit already - but if your Dad is REALLY interested in learning alot fairly quickly, I suggest that he get in touch with Ronnie K. Carico [he has a posting of the 'Carico family tree' on this website. I emailed him through Ancestry.com - and he was very helpful. Robert Martin died in 1996 in CA. Good luck!
My Dad, Herschel, lives in Pennsylvania and I live in Texas. I actually knew my grandfather, Walter, better than I knew my Dad because of divorces and new wife. We started emailing each other and once in a while talking by phone after he saw my post on this website. He speaks of visiting North Carolina and would love to know about everyone.

Yes, my husband's grandparents came from Italy. Actually their name was Cerrone but the spelling was changed at Ellis Island in 1892. That's why he is being so supportive of my attempt to find family; his has kept great records of their 'tree'. I just got the package from Allegheny County and it includes a page from the historical book [put out by the County Historical Society] which talks about the school and the church which were built by Joshua and Martin. Would you like a copy of this page? Bobbye

It surely sounds like we are cousins. My grandfather was Robert Glenn & Phoebe Higgins Carico was his wife. Robert Martin, their oldest son was my father. He died in 1996, CA. What part of the country do you and your Dad live in? I am now in MS. Would love to share info if we can. I have been in contact with a Ronnie Carico in Ennice, NC who has done extensive research on the families of Joshua and his brother, Martin. Hope to talk soon. Bobbye Jerone

Thank you! The town is "Ennis" [sounds like "Anis"]. I talked to someone in the county registrar of deeds office who verified that it still exists - but is now a 'bedroom community' to Sparta, NC. I would love to know more about the church and school -- I am getting a package from the registrar of deeds office, and will be happy to share some of that info when it comes if you still think this looks like we have a 'common root' -- I am new to this, but have become almost addicted in a short time!
Wow! That message was over 5 years old. Surprised it was still in there. I went back a couple of ancestors and then got bored and decided to return to the living, who are only slightly more interesting. Now some of the living are working my last nerve, so maybe I should return to my ancetors -- may we all rest in peace. I guess perhaps we are first cousins, twice removed. The site that helped me the most was Ronnie Carico's at www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/a/r/Ronald-K-Carico/index.ht.... My family tree grew quite large as both my mother and father married five times. Hope your search is easier.

Good to hear from you. I know exactly what you are talking about --one of the reasons I have never been a 'computer guru' is the fact that you really never know if the person you are trying to communicate with is legitimate. I also have been trying to figure how to verify if you and you and your Dad were from the same family of Carico that I am looking for. It sounds like we probably are. If you are interested, I would love to talk with you about our mutual ancestors - my email address is Bvj1101@bellsouth.net if you want to contact me direct. I have found a half-brother [he and I are the children of Robert Martin Carico; son of Robert Glenn and Phoebe Higgins Carico], and he has done some research also with the help of an uncle, Richard Glenn [also a son of Robert Glenn & Phoebe], who has documentation that Peter came from England as an indentured servant about 1674. {Of course that doesn't mean that he didn't got to England from France]. Anyway, hope to hear from you, Bobbye P.S. -- Does your dad know, or remember Richard? Richard lived in Reading, PA for several years, then moved back to DE.

I don't know Ronnie but verified some of his info through my grandparents when they were alive. My grandmother was a very intelligent woman who dabbled in the stock market and also liked researching ancestors. They actually had hired someone to do some searching for them. Even though Peter Carricoe was born in France, the research they were provided indicated his parents were Italian and that there was a town in Italy named Carricoe. How much do you know about your Dad's side of the family. Do you know his brothers and their whereabouts? Do you know what our grandfathers had in common other than parents and siblings? You really never know who you are talking with on these message boards and my first impression was someone was playing a trick on me. If you update your info in the computer to include your family, be discreet because of identiy thefts. Your email address never shows up except on the ancestors web site which is evidently secure because I don't know what it is. I live around the Dallas metroplex in one of the smaller country communities.. I love Texas but don't particularly care for this area but it is convenient for now. My Dad and I were trying to figure out a way to verify your identity (he doesn't remember meeting your mother). My dad is the son of Walter Martin.

Great to hear from you! I thought the Carico family was French and English though-- but my husband [Victor] is 100% Italian [unfortunately no mob ties! Ha!]. Ex-spouses can drive you crazy - I found putting a state line between you and them helps some. Have you been in touch with Ronnie? He really does seem to have alot of info about the Carico family - your Dad might be interested in contacting him [I found him on the 'Ancestry Community" site]. Where in Texas do you live? I lived in and out of Texas most of my life -- and love the state. I have two girls, one of whom now has a babyt [which is what made me finally get off my duff and try to find out something about ancestors] - they are both in New Orleans [thank God, not where it flooded and they didn't have any amount of looting; but did sustain some wind damage to the point that we are just getting them back up to 'ground zero'--just in time for the next hurricane season!] My ex-husband is from N.O.; and I lived there for alot of years, and the girls were raised there - but now they are both trapped by their jobs otherwise they would both move. I'm in Meridian, MS [wanted to get away from the direct hit area of the storms] and really like it]. Hope to talk again soon -- is your Dad descended from Walter Martin [who was the brother of Robert Glenn and the son of Albert O and Caroline Cox Carico]? Music does seem to be in the Carico genes though -- Well, have a great day! Bobbye

Ronnie will be your best source for family history. What I know about the family wouldn't fill a complete page. To update you on my family, I am married to Simon. The first time I saw him I realized what the term weak-in-the knees means and he still curls my toes. My daughter, Paula, is a voluptuous beauty who at 5' 2" is almost 2 inches taller than I. Our twin boys, not identical, are Randy and Ryan. Randy has these massive fists and was always throwing down to fight when he was a boy. We started him with music lessons and he loved playing various instruments so much he stopped fighting because he didn't want to damage his hands. Ryan was our gentleman and intellect. He usually has his pick of the ladies. He recently bought a new house and is eager for me to help decorate it. Now if I can only get Simon raised I might just have the perfect man -- that's what I get for marrying a younger man. Life is pretty good if it weren't for his skinny pretty ex, Terry. With a large Italian family like ours, there must be one mafia figure that could have a little chat with her and then maybe my life could be yaba daba doo.

Those wonderful folks at the Texas Dept. of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, managed to find the death record for my great great grandfather Henry H. Carico. I didn't know the year, just that it was probably before 1910 (it wasn't) and guessed he was in the same county as in the 1900 census (he wasn't). His death certificate says he died in the confederate home in Austin Texas (Travis Co) Jan 26,1912, just short of his 92nd birthday (Feb 2, 1912). He was buried in a state cemetery.

My father, Robert Martin Carico, was the son of Robert Glenn, the son of Albert O. and Nancy Caroline Carico. I have copies of the 1930 census, showing Robert Glenn and wife, Phoebe Olive Higgins Carico, lived in Cecil County, MD with their children-Robert Martin, William S, Charles F., Richard G, Virginia, James G. My father, Robert Martin was born 11/16/16 in Eunice, NC. Hope this helps you, and am eagerly looking forward to hearing from you with any information you can give me about the rest of them and Albert O and Nancy Caroline Cox Carico's places of birth and parents.
I have a Sims Carrico who was born abt 1817 and died March 30, 1880 in Grayson County, VA. He married Susanna Delp. She was the daughter of John Delp, Sr. and Sophia Shuler Delp. I am unsure of who their children were.

Does any of this sound familiar.

Hi Cathy,

That was a fast answer for such an old thread. We have quite a bit of data on the Carrico/Carico, family. Tried to send some of it via a PDF to your aol address but aol tells me it is the wrong address. I have a hard time reading the greyed out letters. :-(

Please contact us at Genealogy4999@aol.com

Marilyn is your 5th cousin several times removed, I think. She is from Peter, the brothert to Able. We try to gather as much data as possible on the family and are very willing to share.

Aloha,

Marilyn and Dan Devaney in Hawaii

Good Morning,

Just saw your posting. Can you give any dates or other data? We are of the Carrico's and Patterson's but are not sure where you would fit into our data.

Aloha,

Marilyn and Dan

Morning David,

A Happy New Year to you- -

Wish I could have good news for you but no luck.

I checked 12 different GEDCOM's for the Carrico connection using Lewis and Louis as well as Isabella. Nothing at all for you.

Then I checked 12 different data bases for the Andrew Patterrson. Nothing that we have matched up at all.

I afraid that you are of a different family line and we can't connect you at this time. We know that there were Pattersons in Southeast Missouri and in Pike County but we have most in North St. Louis County. Not much in the city of St. Louis.

Aloha,

Marilyn and Dan Devaney
Could anyone tell us if there is information out there for the 1820 Missouri Territory? We are trying to find Carrico, Daniel around St. Louis.

Aloha,

Marilyn and Dan Devaney in Hawaii

Burial in St Louis, MO 1805 JN Bte Carrico b KY

We have the following name:

Carrico-JN. Bte. 30 years of age born in Kentucky buried 2 March 1805

Taken from “Incomplete Transcripts from registers of St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church in Florissant, Mo. in the Archives of the Missouri Historical Society St. Louis Missouri.”

This could be Jean Baptiste Carrico, John Baptiste Carrico or ? We don’t know just who JN Bte. Carrico was but wonder if he might be a relative of Vincent Carrico. He was buried in the same cemetery as Vincent Carrico and several of Vincent’s descendants. Is anyone looking for him?

Marilyn and Dan Devaney
