He and Margaret Taylor were married 21 July 1842; the original marriage record is there. Has him as Carden though.

But 1850 was the first that did all members of a household's name so unless you knew his father's name you wouldn't be able to look up the household where he was living before his marriage, in 1840.

They were married in Monroe, I'd muck around there: http://www.mytennesseegenealogy.com/tn-county-monroe.html I'd also look for the Taylors, though same problem, don't know her father's name for 1840 but presumably she lived at home then and there may not have been that many Taylors in Monroe? Might be able to do something by process of elimination.
