My ggrandfather was Thomas Carbine. His father was William Carbine. But the family story says it used to be Carabine. Have you got any info on a William that may connect to mine? Thanks.

hi Susan, I found the Carabines John, John J, Michael, Thomas F. and William H. in the Hudson NY city directory of 1887-1889. I have not been able to tell which one was married to Julia . Have you checked the census of Hudson Ny or Chicago for your family? I have it on my list of things to check the next time I get to the Library. Rita

Whilst wondering around a car-boot sale in the north of England (UK), I came across a brass Plaque. The inscription reads 'In remembrance of W. H. Carabine. BEM (British Empire Medal) Teesside Bridge & Engineering Works'
I wonder is this has anything to do with the name Wm H Carabine which I found on this site?
Regards
John

Re: Chicago Carabine/Carbine
Irish Carabines. In Williamstown Co Galway early 1900's, there was a primary school teacher called Carabine. The school was in BALLYROE. This is the correct spelling. Templetogher is another name for Williamstown parish. I am curious as to whether there is a link. Cait
