Thank you for your reply. You certainly have given me something to think about in regards to the possibility of Ann b. in 1827, moving with her brother Duncan to Alabama. I did have a mitocondrial DNA test taken as the mtdna is past down on the female line in hopes to make a connection with the mother of ANN. Marie

Ann Cann was the daughter of Obediah Cann and Isabella Campbell. Obediah is a brick wall. Isabella was the daughter of Duncan and Mary Campbell. My information is that Mary went to Alabama and then to Arkansas. She and Joseph Minton (b. 1829 in Pendleton District) may have gone with or because of her brother Duncan Cann, who went to Talladega, Alabama in 1840, and gave several sons to the Confederacy.
On the question of your Ann Cann, I don't have an answer but I can say there are several possibilities. There was a Duncan Cann & his wife Elizabeth that did have children in South Carolina and moved to the Talladega, Alabama area. One of the finds is a Rosa Ann Cann as one of the children but several census shows her born about 1836 - not really a match to your Ann Cann born in 1825. Duncan's parents, Obediah Cann and Isabelle Campbell lived in the Abbeville County, S.C. area and had children in the early 1800's but I don't have a complete nor accurate list of the children to be sure and its possible one of these children went with her brother Duncan to Alabama with him

Hi Don
I am researching the McArthur family.
I have hit so many brick wall with this line of my research. I have a Soper and Cripps line in there as well, but my McArthur's seem to be hiding ....
Peter McArthur was born about 1812 in I believe Argyllshire Scotland.
Peter married Mar McEachern born May 1826 in Scotland, Mary emigrated to Canada 1840.
Mary Died & Dec 1902 in Acton Ontario, don't know where she is buried???
They had children
Peter who was born 1854 and died Dec 1906 in Acton Ontario, again don't know where he is buried.

Duncan (MacArthur) born Sept 1858, died Apr 1947, burial Fairview Cemetery Acton. Duncan married Hannah Dron in 1888 and had 10 children, Edna b-1888, Florence (May) b-1890, Robert (Frederick) b-1893, Jean (Jenny) b-1894, Christina b-1899, Theresa b-1899, Clarence b-1904, Helen b-1910, John b-1914 and Seina (Mac)(Cana) birth unknown.

Catherine McArthur was born 1864/71 and married Joseph Wesley Campbell in Jul 1893 Georgetown, Joseph died Aug 1897 and Catherine remarried James Hall in 1901. Catherine had children Christina McArthur b-1887, Ada b-1894, and Mary Ellen b-1896. Catherine and Joseph are buried together in Fairview Cemetery Acton.

What I am hoping to find is where Mary (McEachern) McArthur is buried?
With this info I most likely will know where Peter her husband is buried and also where her son Peter is buried.
Hope something here sounds a bit familiar to the info you have on McArthur's

Marilyn

 South Carolina Cann family

I am researching my gg grandmother Ann Cann b. 1827 who married Joseph Alphred Minton b. approx. 1825, both born in South Carolina. I have heard she was born in Abbeville or Anderson County but do not have proof of that. Her family moved to Alabama when she was a child and lived most of her adult life there but did move to Hazen, Arkansas approximately before 1860. I would appreciate any information. Need to know who her father was and mother's maiden name. Marie

Sorry it took so long to respond. I didn't get this message until now. Unfortunately none of the names you mentioned are in my records. My great grandfather joined the Sons of the American Revolution and traced the name back to a John Cann who was born in Ireland, moved to Delaware and then finally settled in New Jersey -- it was around 1776 when he lived in New Jersey. I have his military record. His father left him in the care of his uncle (father's brother) whose name was Charles Cann. I suspect Charles left the country around the time of the war and moved to Nova Scotia. Can't prove it. John's father was Abraham and he was from Bristol England. If any of this rings true, please get back to me, but at sherri.cann@gmail.com.
Re: Sir Thomas Cann of Bristol

My knowledge of my ancestor from Bristol is an Abraham Cann who married an Irish woman who died in childbirth. He was a sea captain. He couldn't raise his son, John B. Cann (who was born in Ireland - Port Rush) so he talked his brother Charles into raising him in Pennsylvania. Abraham never returned to the farm he bought his brother to raise John on, so Charles sent John to New Jersey to apprentice as a blacksmith. Charles sold the farm and moved to Delaware. I don't know what happened to him after that. I suspect he moved to Canada. There are lots of Canns up there.
John served in the Revolutionary war - From the war records I know he was born in Ireland. My great grandfather's notes have both Bristol and Port Rush as birth places for John.

I can never find a connection between Abraham and any of th Cann's in Bristol. Wish I could. Any Help?
Thanks, Sherri Cann

I have a parallel Cann family in north Dartmoor. Thomasine Cann, born Cheriton Bishop, had 5 sons between 1823 & 1835.The middle son George Cann was at Higher Northweek, South Tawton for a period. My problem has been I have been unable to identify her husband. I am guessing her maiden name may be Avory. Has any one a clue in their records,
Regards to all,
Rob

I am looking for information regarding Robert Cann. He was married to MArgaret Askin in 1867 but they had at least 2 children who were born and died before 1880 and 5 other children who were born before they moved to what is now Saskatchewan, to homestead (Before 1901). Robert Cann immigrated to Canada about 1858 from Tiverton, England. He may have other family that immigrated with him but I have no other information about him. If you have any information regarding this family I would love to hear from you.

Hi Just wanted to let you know that some of my family came from the area that you mentioned. I will have to go through my notes, & notes that I recieved from my 2nd cousin to let you know who all the Cann's were that lived in that area & when they left. Some of our family came to America stayed for a while then returned back to England. One of the family members was young Samuel E. Cann who is buried there.
