Hi,

I'm looking for information about Hannah Cann, born in Kempton, Gloucestershire about 1827. She later moved to Stourbridge, Worcestershire and married Richard Soley. The strange thing is, I can't find any record of her home town Kempton, as recorded in the 1851 Census when she was already living in Stourbridge.

Any information very gratefully received!

Thanks

Rich

Sir Thomas Cann of Bristol

I have recently traced myself directly to Sir Thomas Cann of Bristol. He was born 1565 (13th gen). The lineage includes the Cann's of Yarmouth and Mass. They were mostly sea captains. The last in the line in Frederick Bowman Cann, born 1894, Yarmouth and moved to Mass then New Hampshire. If anyone has info on the family from it's beginnings in Bristol, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Cann's from Ohio

Hello again, I am still looking for my Cann family, I have recently discovered little tidbits I thought I would toss out to see if anyone knows anything more. I am a descendent of Josephine Cann born: 30 Apr 1854. I believe she was born in Brown Co., OH and she died in KY, 25 Dec 1887. On the 1870 census she and all her siblings except 1 are living with a Mrs. Wright (no relation as far as I can tell)

On the 1860 census all of the children, Franklin W. "Frank" Cann b:abt 1849; Rebecca Jane "Jane" Cann b: abt 1852; (my) Josephine Cann b: 1854; Charles "Charlie" Cann b: abt 1857; and Catherine Cann b: abt 1859, are with their parents David Cann b: abt 1827 and Dulie or Nella (depending on which census 1860/1850) b: abt 1832.

Josephine married Oliver Bercaw of Ripley, Brown, OH. I have contacted the Brown county court house and they do not have any records regarding the marriage or guardianship of Josephine and her siblings.

If anyone has any information, I seem to be at a (hopefully temporary) stopping point, I would apprieciate all/ or any help, suggestions of where to look next even. Thanks in advance. Robin

I have begun the long process of doing a "one-name study" on the name CANN in Ontario public record, beginning 1869. I have recorded all the B-M-D's in public record INDEX, and have begun the process to identify the FILM NUMBERS for each record. Then I can look up the actual REGISTRATIONS. Our local Family History Centre in Edmonton Alberta has almost all the early films, since most western settlers came through Ontario.
I am working on marriages first and have transcribed marriages from 1869 up to 1885 to date.
I am willing to share with anyone who will identify to me their own family line so that I can place these in the correct lines. I can send you film number, registration number and basic information that was included in registration.

I have three records of a Thomas Cann and spouse Sallie, in Ontario.
My great grandfather on my mother's side was Uriel Cann bSept 30, 1828 in England. He immigrated to Canada in 1851 and initially settled in Mariposa, Ontario where he married Mary Babcock. They had 7 children named Sidney, Francis, James, Paul, Thomas, Emma and Alfred, my grandfather. Uriel, Thomas and Alfred all moved to Manitoba around 1890. I'm looking for any connections out there as well as more info on Uriel and his ancestors. Can someone help?

Cann arrival in Yarmouth

I have been researching my Cann line for many years now, and I have yet to find the name of the first Cann to immigrate from England, nor do I have the ship he/she arrived on. It has always been my understanding that the first arrival was in Yarmouth, but I cannot even be positive of that because some of the Canns also settled in New England in present day America. With all of the influential Cann ancestors of Yarmouth, from sea captains to wealthy businessmen, surely there should be some record of the first arrival somewhere. I will be happy to exchange information with anyone.

CANN in Monroe Co IL

In honor of our webmaster's new Cann, and, frankly, my inability to find my old ones, I ask for help!

James Cann, 26, appears in 1850 census for Monroe Co IL as head of houshold with Tabitha, 15 (he married Tabitha L. Kinney 25 Dec 1849), and Alexander Cann, 21 and John Cann, 19, who I believe are his brothers. In the 1840 census for Monroe Co IL there is an older James Cann (40-50) as head of a household with 8 other males and 3 females. In the 1830 census for St. Clair Co IL there is a James Cann, 20-30, with 2 males under 5 and 1 female 20-30.

Can anyone help with a clue as to this family of Canns?
