I have Canns from New Jersey and Delaware. I am interested in finding someone descended from or related to Newton Cann who married Emma Haley late 1800's. Children included Winfield, Harvey, Nelson, William, Dorothy, Ruth, Roger. Some descendants are surnamed Martone, Sheehan, Lane. I would like to find Christine Sheehan, b. 1944. We have Haley ancestors in common.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I didn't get this message until now. I doubt we're related since I know that the name Cann wasn't changed (at least not after the Revolution) because my great grandfather joined the Sons of the American Revolution and traced the name back to a John Cann who was born in Ireland, moved to Delaware and then finally settled in New Jersey -- it was around 1776 when he lived in New Jersey. I have his military record. His father left him in the care of his uncle (father's brother) whose name was Charles Cann. I suspect Charles left the country around the time of the war and moved to Nova Scotia. Can't prove it. John's father was Abraham and he was from Bristol England. If any of this rings true, please get back to me, but at sherri.cann@gmail.com. I don't use whatever email address Ancestry.com has any more. Cheers, Sherri
