Hello,

My great-grandfather's name was Crisanto Canales and according to my father hewas from Spain. I cannot seem to find any information about the Canales family in Spain, everything I find is from Mexico. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Christina

Hi just read your message and wanted to let you know my grandfather father Hipolito Canales was from Spain. My cousin and I are right now trying to put together a book on our family tree, I have been able to find some information tracing Canales back to the 14 century to Italy and yes we do have alot of family that migrated to Mexico and were in try to claim the land as Spanish land. Our Canales family were the first folks to settle along the Rio Grande Valley and are still there, right now my cousin has ran into a brick wall tracing the family I'm trying to help her with more leads thats how I came across your information.

Really off chance, I will contact my uncle and see if he can tell me anything, but my Aunt Frances married into Canales family. She is listed on her grave as Frances Castillo de Canales, but buried with her parents and brother, my grandfather. Frances was not her given name, it's name she used in USA.

I have little info, some old pictures of her, she died in 1962. She was born in France of Spanish [Basque] heritage and family was around mainly those from France and Spain once they arrived in USA.

Linda
