Surnames: Porterfield Guthrie Lenover
Thanks for the quick response and making the parental connection. Nancy is my 4th great aunt as her father James is my 4th great grandfather.

James Porterfield (1766-1837) - 4th great grandfather. From there it goes:
Robert Guthrie Porterfield (1814-1872)
Robert Milton Porterfield (1848-1937)
Paul Russell Porterfield (1891-1933)
Juanita Marie Porterfield (1913-1992)
Nancy Kay Lenover (1937-2010)
me - Martin Stuart "Marty" Acks (1957-)

In case you are interested in the Porterfield line, it tracks back to early royal lines of Scotland and England through maternal connections (the men married "up" the society ladder) when the Porterfields were a prominent (gentry) but not noble or titled family in 16th and 17th century Renfrewshire Scotland. These connections then make it back to Charlemagne and earlier. You can see more at my Acks Family tree on Ancestry.com. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/68205080/family. Some of this on WikiTree also. You can start with James Porterfield and go backward from there if you like. http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Porterfield-194 .

The starting point for all things Porterfield for me tends to be The Porterfields (1947) by Frank Burke Porterfield. Have you seen that book? I have a copy of the reprint. Plus it is now on Ancestry.com as of a year or two ago. Porterfield only has Nancy listed as born in 1811 and no mention of a husband, though. That is a bit strange as the book usually mention husbands for most Porterfield women from that era.

There is another source that has Nancy Porterfield's husband as James Kincaid. This is mentioned in Laurence Rawlin Guthrie's "American Guthrie and allied families : lineal representations of the colonial Guthries of Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North and South Carolina" (1933) on page 421. You can see this at http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=11592. Have you seen this before and do you have any comments on the accuracy? It is an unsourced leaf on the tree in this book. Her sister is also listed as having married a Kinkaid so perhaps there was just one them that married a Kincaid. Guthrie (1933) also does not list all the other children found in Porterfield (1947) leading to further questions about this source.

By the way, my Mom and Dad are interred at Butler National Cemetery. It is a beautiful resting spot.
