Unfortunately I do not know of a Carl Calabrese in my family line. My great grandmother (paternal side) was Maria Calabrese (her maiden name) born in Salandra, Bascilicata,Matera, Italy in 1867 & died in Toronto, Canada in 1945. Her daughter Angela "Angelina" Maria Calabrese was also born in Salandra in 1885 & died in Toronto, Ontario in 1965. She came to New York in 1901 with her husband Guiseppe Scandiffio in 1901 & I know they lived in Boston for a time & that she had an uncle there. I do not know her uncle's first name. By 1907 they had moved back to New York as my dad was born there in 1907. Their first son was born in Boston in 1903. They moved to Toronto in 1910.

I am looking for relatives of a Carl Calabrese who would be around 72. He is my birth father. May have been from the Brockton area. Had moved to Conn. and passed in 2003(I think). Just want to see if I resemble him or anyone else in the family

Happy to hear from you. I've been going back and forth with Sharon and she's shared a lot of photos with me. Your great great grandfather Domenico was my great grandfather Leonardo's brother. Your grandfather Micahel was my grandfather Saverio's first cousin. Which I think makes my father, Gerard, your father's fisrt cousin once removed. Diggin around years ago I found your g. great grandfather's grave in Holy Name. Looking forward to more connection and information. My direct email is Jcalabrese@lionel.com. Jerry

Jerry,

I do believe we are related. My paternal grandfather Michael married Lucia Battaglino. They had nine children of which my father Angelo is the third. Michael also had a brother Frank and sisters Christina DiNicola and Marianine Ciccone both in Newark. I am so glad you have other information regarding their heritage in Santomenna. I only got back as far as Michael's father Dominico.

Hello Sharon:

Thanks for replying. I've been trying to figure out your dad's exact connection to my family but didn't know that his name was Dominick. I was born in 1948, and I believe your grandfather was my grandfather's cousin. How old was your father when he died? Can you tell me your Calabrese grandfather's first name? I have a pretty detailed family tree from some time spent in Santomenna, Italy and it has great details up until your grandfather's generation, but very little other than my immediate family after that. Are any of your aunts or uncles still alive? My father, also Jerry (Gerard) died almost two years ago at 94, and he knew your father and uncles. I lived on Brunswick Street in my grandfather, Saverio's house. Do you still live in the NYC metro area? I live and work in New York City and would really appreciate any help you might offer in filling in some family tree blanks. It goes without saying I would be happy to do the same for you. My email is: Jcalabrese@lionel.com if you want to contact me directly. best, Jerry Calabrese

She had a daughter, Angelina Maria Calabrese(my grandmother). Angelina married Guiseppe Scandiffio of Pomerico. Her marriage record states "father unknown". I think Angelina had uncles who were in the N.Y. or Boston area in the early 1900's, all of their names would be Calabese or Calabraise, as her ship record of 1901 states she has uncles in that area. I would really love to know who Angelina's father was.

Looking for descendants of Carmelo Calabrese and Rosa Cangelosi (my great-aunt), from Villarosa Sicily. Carmelo was 38 yrs old when he came to Cleveland Ohio in 1909, Rosa Cangelosi was 26 when she came in 1910. Rosa traveled with 2 baby daughters -- 3-yr old Giovanna, and 2-yr old Maria. Three of Rosa's younger brothers followed her to Cleveland later -- Luigi, Giuliano, and Giovanni (my grandfather). I discovered all of this information in ellisisland.org. We don't know how, but our families completely lost all touch with the Calabrese relatives, and we're all anxious to hear from them.

Calabrese Family - Bronx NY - 1920 & 1930

I'm looking for information on the family of Anthony Calabrese 1887/1888 Italy - 1962 Bronx NY. He married a Lucy (possibly Lucia DeStefano, in 1913, Manhattan). A WWI draft refistration card says he was born in Italy on 11 Jul 1888, the SSI says he was born in Italy on 11 Jul 1887 and died in NY in Nov 1962. The only two censuses I can find him in are the 1920 & 1930, both in Bronx. In the 1920, he is living next to a John Calabrese & wife Seraphina. I can only assume John & Seraphina are his parents. As Anthony names a daughter Seraphina and is living next to John & Seraphina. John & Seraphina have a son Mario born in NY in 1905. But I can't find any of them in 1910. A Mario Calabrese did die in Bronx in 1971 (born Jan 1905). I'm looking for burials for John & Seraphina, Anthony & wife LucyAnd also a census record for his family in 1910. John was born about 1860 Italy and Seraphina about 1868 Italy. The 1920 census says they immigrated or arrived in NY in 1884. It asks if they were naturalized or aliens and it says "Pa". Does that mean they were naturalized in Pennsylvania or what does it mean? Any help greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the very late reply, but I did not get your original post. If I'm not mistaken, your mother was Grace Calaneri, who was my father's first cousin. My grandmother was Grazia (Grace)and her sister was Caterina, who I remember visiting as a kid. The third sister did, indeed, marry a DiNicola, and their decendents live in the same house in Santomenna where my father was born. That would make us first cousins, once removed. I really liked your mom, and remember her fondly. Do you stay in touch with your uncle Mike or aunt Celine? Hope this reaches you.
Hello Mark:

Thanks for the note. "Red Mike" Calabrese was my father's cousin, though he was older and I believe he was a first cousin, once removed. My father died last summer at the age of 94, and I lost an amazing resource and window into that world, but I do have a lot of family records that I put toghether after spending time in Santomenna. both of my grandparents had one parent with the surname Piserchia, and as a child I lived in my grandfather's house at 231 Brunswick Street, next to the ballfield. I also know that one of his brothers, Angelo, had a grocery store on Railroad Avenue. Most of my Calabrese relatives are buried in Holy Name Cemetary on Westside Avenue in Jersey City and its records office is a great source of information, as well. I now live in New York City. let me know if you want to dig deeper. My direct email is Jcalabrese@lionel.com best, Jerry Calabrese

Hello Jerry,

I just started serching my family tree and alot of the things you mentioned are the same as I'm finding. My Grandfather was Anthony ( Tony ) Piserchia, his wifes name was gladys. I can remember my grand mother often mentioning the name Calabrese. if I remember correctly we had a relitive with that name the headed up the unions in NJ I think his name was Mike Calabrese. My great garandfather was Guiseppe Piserchia and his wife's name was Maria. my mother was named after her. my great great grandfater was also named Guiseppe Piserchia and his wife was Mary Theresa Napolilo. of course my great grandfater was born in italy in 1866 and came to US, where they lived in Jersy City. I rember Pavonia ave and montgomery street from when I was just a kid. I'm now 54. My grandfater owned a reseraunt called the Gem and just about the whole block, on railroad ave and brunswick street. Based on the small towns you mentioned in italy I have a feeling we may be related in someway. because thats where my clan came from as well.

since your father is still alive maybe you could ask hime if he knew Tony and Gladys Piserchia from downtown JC. I noticed your grandfather and mine had the same first names, but of course Giuseppe was probably one of the most common names. I think you said your fater was born in Salerno, maybe he would remember the Piserchia's from there. I,d love to know if any of your old Records from italy have any of the piserchias in it. worst case, Id be willing to bet they were all frends and possably took the boat together. My Great Great Grandfather came over first some time around 1845, then he waqs very intrimental in bringing many italian families over afterwords. what I've been told was he brought them over and had jobs and homes ready for them. what ever that means...

look forward to hearing from you.
Mark Hammond

Jerry,
I went back in your thread and saw that your great grandfather was Leonardo Calabrese. I was just in Santomenna and researched my father's family. Our last name is DiCorcia and my grandfather came from Santomenna to Jersey City. His mother's name was Elisabetta Calabrese (born in 1858). I found the records in town hall and it states that her father's name was Leonardo Calabrese, but it does not show her mother. Did you Great Grandfather remarry and have a daughter, Elisabetta? I have attached the page from the town records.

Denise

My dad comes from a family of 9 kids I believe. Most of whom also lived in Jersey and NY. His parents immigrated from Italy and never did learn to speak much english. Much of what you have posted seems to ring a bell with me but would like to know for sure. FYI my fathers name was Leonard also. Hope to find I have more relatives out there.

I am looking for information on my great grand father Antonio Calabrese from Riccia. The only information I have is that he had a son from his first marriage named Guiseppi. Antonio also owned a brick yard and a coke yard. His first wife died, and I don't know her name. He got remarried to my great grandmother Maria Guiseppa Moffa. Maria was born 3 APR 1860. Antonio was a bit older than her. She had 7 children with Antonio... Donato, Michele, Fillipo, Filomena, Carmella, Felicia and my grand father Salvatore. I heard that Antonio died about a year or so before Maria emigrated to America with Filomena and Salvatore Dec 1916. Also Maria Moffa's parents were Donato Moffa and Maria Pasquala Coromano. Any information on anyone in this post would be appreciated.

Hi,

My name is Fred Hicks and my wife's name is Terry Bozza. Her line of Bozza is her father, Cosimo Michael Bozza, grandfather Dominico Bozza, great-grandfather Michele Bozza.

I do know on her father's side there were seven children by their father, Dominico.

It is my understanding that Giuseppe Calabrese is a cousin of Michele Bozza.

I just started doing the family genealogy of the Bozza and this is all the data I have.

I would be very interested in hearing from you.

Thanks,

Fred

Hello Ron,
My name is Charles and I am researching this line. More specifically that of your uncle Joseph (Giuseppe). Considering your last post is in 2000, I am hoping that you are still working on this lineage back to Bracigliano.

I have a fair amount of info that I can share with you if you are interested.
If so, please feel free to email me at

Redfeennix@yahoo.com

You might want to copy and paste that to make sure you get the 2 e's and the 2 n's. I did not get some folks email in the past because they didn't include the double letters :o)

Eager to hear from you,
Charles
