James Newman's ancestors were from the Essex area. Go to
http://www.denspages.co.uk/roots/birmingham.htm where you will see his ancestors back to 1725. The Marriage index on the Free Births Marriages and Deaths web site gives the information that Rose Adelaide's surname was Worral from her 1st marriage to Charles Worrall'. The reference is 'King's Norton 6c 708, Oct-Dec 1886' if you wish to send for the certificate. It seems her maiden name was Rosa Adelaide Inshaw and the Inshaw part was later used as the middle name for son John Inshaw Cakebread in 1891 reference ' Birmingham 6d 15 , Oct-Dec 1891'.
The 1891 census also shows her children from her previous marriage as having the Worrall surname.
The use of alternative surnames seems to have begun with James Newman's brother Daniel. Daniel used the name CAKEBRIDGE to register the birth of son Albert in 1878 (both he and his wife as well as Albert) yet CAPEWELL was used on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses but when anyone was born, married or died they used CAKEBREAD.
I didn't realise that James Newman also used Capewell in the 1891 census.
Rosa died in 1898 (ref. Aston 6d 256, Oct-Dec 1898). As James had died 3 years earlier do you know who raised Violet and John?
