It sure sounds like it.

I found the other night that he naturalized in MI. He got his 1st and 2nd papers in Huron County. At the same time there was another Dyer about the same age, I think I remember his name was Ernest. He also got his papers. I figured they were probably brothers. I have had no more time to find more out.

Is there a was to learn what you have about him? Do you know if he married again?

Rose

Hi Rose,

I also have Ernest as John's brother b. 1870. I can't help going forward, so far but will see what I can find also. I can however give you information, going back in the Dyer line, to my connection. The Dyer's are my Grandfather's family, he was born on the IOW and came to Canada.

Kind Regards, Lorraine

Thanks that would be helpful going back.

Do you know what I will find on naturalization papers? Do you know what information is usually recorded?

I live ony 1 1/2 hours from Huron County Records, in Michigan. But I will not be able to visit there until summer. I just can't figure out what info may be recorded on these papers.

Well, it is exciting to meet you

Hi Rose, It is nice to be in touch with you also, we are distant cousins.

I haven't had anything to do with U.S. naturalization papers so far, so not much help there.

The Dyers are a big family, my information goes back to John Dyer b.1728, our however many times g.Grandfather!

If you give me your e-mail it would be easier, if you feel comfortable doing that.

Kind Regards, Lorraine in Ontario

Hello Lorraine.

My father was David Cake born in Godshill IoW, son of Stanley Cake {IoW} and Beatrice Smith {of London} son of Frederick Cake and Elsie Dyer, son of Charles Cake {buried in Niton IoW} born in Tolpuddle, son of William Cake Tolpuddle, son of John Cake and Betty Parker married 1799 Tollpuddle. to which then is a long list going back of unjoined up Cakes that are spiderwebed across Dorset that lead back to Marytavey Dartmoor, residing for about two hundred years; from which has a possible named connection of a Jonis Cake from Norfolk.

I am in possession of Frederick's Silver fob watch which still working, bears his name as also to a scratched date of 1901.

Anyway it seems a while since your last search, but hope you are still out there, or if there is anyone else, -

John.
