I wonder if anyone else has any information on an Alice Caiger. She married John Green in 1884 and was widowed shortly after the birth of her Daughter Alice in 1899.

Hello Alice Caiger (abt. 1866) married John Green.

Alice was daughter of George Caiger (b. 1842 in Aldingbourne, Sussex, and Mary Ann b. 1831 in Walthampstow, Essex). Georege Caiger was son of Edmund Caiger (1802) and Ruth Bridger both from Aldingbourne, Sussex and was one of six children. - Have alot more on the Caiger side if you want it. Mike

Hi Mike

Thanks for your post. I am pretty sure we do have the right Alice Caiger but,the only nagging doubt I have is why if she had a family with brothers and sisters did her child Alice (my grandmother) end up being brought up as a ward of the Parson Family. I was always told my grandmothers parents Alice and John Green had died when she was two. Apparently of galloping consumption. Alice and her daughter were living with the parsons in the 1901 census she was shown as a servant. For many years the family believed my grandmother was the illegitimate child of one of their sons. But I do have Alice's and Johns marriage certificate. However it has proved impossibly to find a record of my grandmothers birth although baptism records exist. My grandmother always said her birthday was 29th of March 1899. But her christening date is shown as the 27th of March 1899 (before she was born)!! Do you have any certificates or records.

Hi Mike

Many moons ago you sent me a message which indicated you had a lot more information on the Caiger family.

I would be grateful for anything you have.

I did eventually locate her baptism.

Many thanks

Val
