Welcome to Caid Researchers!

Surnames: CAID, TREAT, FREEMAN
The surname Caid appears in my family and I am interested in working with others to share information and help all of us learn more about this family. I will begin by sharing what I know.

The earliest documented Caid ancestor I have is William J. Caid who was born 3 January 1836 in Jasper County, MO, and died 16 May 1862, place unknown. I suspect he died during the Civil War. The "Civil War Compiled Military Service Records" database online through Ancestry.com (U.S. National Archives), shows a William Caid, who served in Company A, 2 Missouri Infantry, of the Confederate Army. I have not reviewed original records to determine if this is our William Caid.

There is a William Caid, son of Isaac and Matilda Caid, listed in the 1850 Census of Marion County, Arkansas as age 15. This is very likely our William. The census was taken in November of 1850 and he would have turned 15 in January of 1850. His siblings are: Elisa 16, Mary 11, Nancy A. 8, Thomas 5, James W. 2. A significant clue that this is our William Caid is that his son (and only child) James Thomas Caid, was born 16 November 1861 in Marion County, Arkansas.

William J. Caid's wife remarried after his death. She married Ignatius Treat on 20 March 1864 in Polk County, Arkansas and bore him six children before she died on 2 March 1877. Her maiden name is unknown and her first name is variously given as Maniza, Mazinga, or Maginza. In the 1870 Census of MO, Barry Co, Capp's Creek Twp., Cassville P.O., page 655, dwelling #110, her name appears to be Mazinga. She is listed as 30 years old and born in Tennessee. Her son James Thomas Caid is shown as 7 years old. According to Treat Family records shared online (will post link in another message), the Treat children born of this union were: William Robert Treat b. 13 Jan. 1865, John Stephen Treat b. 21 Nov 1865 in Jasper County, MO, d. 27 Feb 1926, Green M. Treat b. 11 Nov. 1868 in Jasper County, MO, Susie Emmaline Treat b. 29 Jan 1870 in Pierce City, Lawrence, MO, d. 29 Jul 1939 in Fontana, San Bernardino, CA, Anna Treat b. abt. 1873, and Joseph Parker Treat b. 25 Sep 1875 in Pierce City, Lawrence, MO, d. 21 Jan 1961.

Next Message: James Thomas Caid

I am looking for the parents of William Jess Whiddon born 1861 in Coldwater, Mississippi and moved to AR where he died 1923. I know his mother's name is Susan Caid, but no reference to a father. Any clues?

Sorry, I don't have a Susan Caid in my records. In checking Ancestry.com, I find a Susan Cade, born about the right time to be William's mother. You might work on that spelling.

Good Luck,
Kathy McCurdy

My great grandmother was Millie Ann Tennessee Caid Venable, a daughter of John B Caid and Susannah Elizabeth Garner. She had a brother William Jesse born 10 May 1861.

Are these the same line as yours?

I don't know Suannah's parents given names. I have her mother's name as Millie, born in SC about 1802. Susannah had a sister named Jane M. Garner born about 1830 in Tennessee. Susannah and John B Caid's children were James J., Mary L., Christopher C., Millie Ann, Joe Mandilla and of course William Jesse. I show William Jesse married Mary J. White in Faulkner County, AR.

I don't think there is much mystery to the name Tennessee Millie. See Christopher C(Columbus?)and my grandmother had a sister named Alpharhetta. Her parents came to north Mississippi from Alpharhetta, GA.

If you want I can email files I have on these families.

I am so excited. I didn't think I would ever find her and now I have all this info. I would love to see what you have. My mom and 4 of her siblings are still living. They are the grandchildren of William Jesse so Susannah was there great grandma. How are you connected? K
