My great-grandmother's name was Julia Cahalane and she was one of thirteen children. Raised in County Cork, Ireland. She immigrated to New York and then Chicago, sometime before the Great Depression. My great-grandfather's name was Daniel Hurley he was also from County Cork, Ireland. They had three daughters Eleanor, Margaret and Juliet. I do not know if these names I have listed are in any way related to the names you have listed. But Cahalane-Hurley is a very rare combination, so I just figured I ought to give it a reply. Please let me know if you have any additional info.

I too have a Julia Cahalane in my tree, but I think she is a bit further back. But it is a common name. My Cahalane tree goes into the Margaret Murphy/Denis O'Connell line. Do we have a connection in common there someplace?

No, I don't think we have a connection with those two names. Do you have a connection with Flanagan, O'Connor or Dougherty? Those would be my great aunts' surnames. And O'Connor was my grandmother's uncle.

Hi Lauren,
I need to check my computer about names, but unfortunately it's on the fritz..urghh! Do you know if Julia and Daniel were married here in the US or in Ireland? My Hurley-Cahalane connection is from Ballymacshoneen Cork (South of Courtmacsherry). As soon as I get my laptop back from my brother (who will hopefully fix it soon) I'll let you know what names I have.
Thanks,
Ellen

Ellen,

My mom thinks that they married here in the states. All I know of my family history is from my mom's side. They are all from Ireland, Scotland, etc. My father's side I have no idea. He was adopted. But he definitely looks Irish and has that Irish temper. :) Hope you get your computer fixed soon.

I have a Calahane connected to my Hurleys that I'm trying to unravel. Mary Jane Calahane was godmother in 1861 to my great grandmother Margaret Hurley daughter of Daniel Hurley and Bridget Healy. There is also a Michael Callahan buried in the Hurley grave that I'm assuming may be a Calahane. Mine settled in Worcester,MA in 1856. Daniel died Civil War. I thought they may be from Kerry or West Cork but I'm not sure. Daniel Hurley was the son of Jeremiah Hurley and Mary Sullivan. Any help on these connections would be appreciated. Helen
