Tracing a William Cahalan

In Biddulph, Canada in the mid to late 1800's there was a family that came to be known as the Black Donnelly's. In a recent book about the family there is a William Cahalan who is mentioned as having been killed by two of the members of this family. My interest is not only from the Cahalan side, but the maternal side of my family had members who were part of the lynching of the Donnelly's in 1880. I am trying to trace the Cahalan connection here. Thanks!

Nancy, he is my great great gfrandfather and I have a lot of information. I sent you an email yesterday but no reply today so I am posting this in hopes you will see it soon. And I pray that you are descended from one of his chiledren other than Thomas or Mary as those are the only 2 lines of the 8 children that we have verified so far. Looking forward to your response. jimcahalan

Hello,

I think I am a descendant of the Thomas you mentioned; he was my GG Grandfather. Is it Thomas D? I have tons of info of Thomas but would like to know more about his siblings and hopefully get info on his parents and beyond!

Thanks,
Gretchen Mitchell

Gretchen,

This is Tim Cahalan (I changed my email, so they changed my log in name.), your distant cousin. I don't think this is our Tom. Our people came from Ireland via England, then Mass., then Kentucky where they lived with Quakers and farmed. During the Quaker period, Tom joined the Merchant Marine. Tom caught up with the rest of them when they moved to Edina, MO and opened businesses. Then the war began. I never remember hearing of any Canadian connection. All though Canada and Mass. are close. But, my Grandfather was William H. Cahalan b. 2/16/1901, so maybe they were distantly related and named my grandfather after the victim???
