Hi thought I'd update a post from a long time ago.
My Filomena Caggiano appears to have lived
in Piaggine before coming to NYC. I
can't remember if that's the provence of Salerno
or not. Ship sailed from Naples . Maybe someonelse
has caggianos from that region.

Hi,

My last name is also Caggiano. My family came from Piaggine. My Great Grandfather "Angelo" Immigrated to Pittsburgh, Pa in the early nineteen hundreds. I believe he had a brother that immigrated to NYC but am not 100% sure. Angelo died very young and my grandfather Rosario who also immigrated from Piaggine, did not know his father. I would very much like to learn more about any Caggiano's in the US. Good chance the families may be related.

Hi - that's very interesting; I wonder if we'll ever have enough info between us to find a connection.

I don't know any of Philomena Caggiano's relatives yet. Info I do have I don't think we'll help us link anything - husbands name, some kids names.

Maybe more promising is the year she came (also early 1900s, which I have, ship she sailed on, and the address in NY she went to. From what I can tell, she was not travelling with any other Caggiano. I'll try searching for your Caggiano's and see if I can find who in the states they were going to.

Do you know if there are alot of Caggianos in Piaggine? There are a fairly big number overall in italy I think - I forget whata the count was when I last checked.

let me know if you turn up any more.

I don't know if this will help - but. My great grandmother Carmela Caggiano came from Italy. My great grandfather, her husband also came to the USA. They were married either there or over here. Not sure of all details but they did reside in NY and Camela did die in Brooklyn. If this is any help let me know differentlp@netscape.com. Good Luck, Lucy

I'm not sure, because I still have so little info on her. Do you know where your caggiano (carmela) came from in italy? In the ellis island database, if you click on the handwritten manifest, there's a column that asked the traveler what town they lived in - there are some other columns that may provide useful info also of a connection, like what address they were going to in america and who they were going to see. Please let me know what it says.

My great grandmother was from Naples, Italy. Her name was Rose Caggiano and she married Carmelo M. Conti and lived in Renovo, PA. Her Father's name was John Caggiano. She was born 2/13/1859 and came to the US in 1883. Any relation?

I was married to a Charles Caggiano from Glen Cove, NY. His mother had that name. I don't have much family history but I am just starting to put together some genealogy for my son.

Thank you so very much, you are very sweet. I just sent you a message on Facebook. I hope it's you. Joe is going to school down here in Atlanta. Believe it or not, I think about your family often. My whole family fell in love with your parents when they were out west for our wedding. They ask about your mom and how she is doing. I am just starting out when it comes to making a family tree for the Caggiano family. I think it's very important for Joe to have. I have been, and am still working on my Dad's family. His generation has been trying to figure it out, but there have been so many different stories they have followed over the years that don't match records. I think someone back in my Dad's family had a creative imagination when it comes to the family's history. I am going to pursue the Caggiano family as my main focus as soon as I am able to track my Dad's family back to where they came from in Ireland. I was hoping to get it done before he passed away, but sadly that didn't happen; he passed away a week ago; but I will get it done for the generations going forward.
