Please contact me I think I can help you. I think the correct name is Gaggiano. There is a Donato Gaggiano in my ancestory chart and a lady by the name of Lucia Nigro. These people come from Chieuti Italy near Foggia and San Lamis.

Hi, thank you for trying to be of help. It is good of you. You have replied to an old message that was originally on an old message board, 'familyhistory.com/messages', which was bought out by ancestry and then merged to their boards.

Since then I have received my paternal grandparent's birth and marriage records from the comune of San Fele, PZ, in Italia. Since then I have also started a website dedicated to that town. San Fele is in Southern Italy in the Region of Basilicata in the Province of Potenza. It is at this web address or you can google for it:

www.rootsweb.com/~itacsnf/index.html

My paternal grandmother's surname was indeed CAGGIANO. Her full name at birth was: Maria Donata Antonia CAGGIANO

In addition, you can find her tree online at gencircles and there is no sign-in required to view. The website is at this webaddress:
http://www.gencircles.com/users/sanfele/

Many surnames in Italy have similar spellings as do many of the comuni (municipalities) in Italy.

Kindest regards & best wishes in your research
Paula Nigro,

Hi, my great-great-grandmther was Pasqualina Caggiano. She married Federico Bevilacqua. They were both born in Montemiletto in the mid 1800s. Does this sound familiar? Please e-mail me at pasquale500@verizon.net.

re: Maria Donata Antonia CAGGIANO daughter of Antonio and Mariatonia TOMASULO

Hi, thanks for the interest.
Although CAGGIANO is an old surname and not many people have it compared to my NIGRO surname, the only way we would know if you are connected to my dad (it's his mom) is if you do a full "Comprehensive Genome" test at FamilytreeDNA.com

It's amazing what we are finding out about his roots because that particular FTDNA test researches the male line, the female line and all the possible cousin connections with the "Comprehensive Genome" test, which is only available for men.

There is a good chance that your CAGGIANO family is distantly related since your roots are from the region of Campania, which is right next to Basilicata. See the population distribution here:

gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html?cognome=CAGGIANO

For the paper trail, my Caggiano ancestors are from San Fele, PZ, Italy. After WWII most of the family moved to another comune nearby in Basilicata and then perhaps to your area of interest.

Good to hear from you,
Paula Nigro
