re: Maria Donata Antonia CAGGIANO daughter of Antonio and Mariatonia TOMASULO
Hi, thanks for the interest.
Although CAGGIANO is an old surname and not many people have it compared to my NIGRO surname, the only way we would know if you are connected to my dad (it's his mom) is if you do a full "Comprehensive Genome" test at FamilytreeDNA.com
It's amazing what we are finding out about his roots because that particular FTDNA test researches the male line, the female line and all the possible cousin connections with the "Comprehensive Genome" test, which is only available for men.
There is a good chance that your CAGGIANO family is distantly related since your roots are from the region of Campania, which is right next to Basilicata. See the population distribution here:
gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html?cognome=CAGGIANO
For the paper trail, my Caggiano ancestors are from San Fele, PZ, Italy. After WWII most of the family moved to another comune nearby in Basilicata and then perhaps to your area of interest.
Good to hear from you,
Paula Nigro
