PLEASE PLEASE I have spoken to two Cage descendents who have also contacted Mr. Rose about mistakes in names, children and dates of the Cage family. Will he please correct these? The mistakes are not about people 100 years ago, but living people. If you continue to spread incorrect information, no one will be able to rely on you as a researcher. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I am sorry to learn that Mr. Rose has upset so many people. He has for many years been a diligent and generous researcher, and much of the information about the Cages that is available today is entirely attributable to his industry.
That being said, I do not think it is a good idea to list information about living people on the web-especially if those people themselves object. Such information is often inaccurately recorded, if not in "public" sources (though they sometimes are), then certainly in private genealogies that get passed around to researchers. I can say in his defense that Mr. Rose does not simply make up information; all researchers get their data from somewhere, and occasionally those sources are sometimes inaccurate.
I rely on these sources, and on Mr. Rose as well. I freely admit that I, too, may have passed on incorrect information; it happens sometimes. And a good thing, too, since only then-when it is spotted-is the right information noted and recorded.
I pride myself on having the most extensive listing of the Cage family in America, and I share this information freely with anyone. I do not post this information on the web, however, for precisely the reasons stated above.
All this by way of saying that if you will but tell me of any inaccuracies in Mr. Rose's records, I will see to it that they are corrected in mine. Perhaps I have information that might be of use to you as well. I will happily share what I know and trust that my mistakes will be accepted with patience and understanding, and promise they will be corrected immediately. I feel that only through precision and cooperation can permanent family histories be recorded.
Thanks for letting me have a say.

I read with great interest your posting on the Ancestry. com site. I was always told about Places like Cage's Bend in Sumner County where a number of my early ancestors lived and were buried. I took this information with a grain of salt because of course Cages don't lie, but we do strech the truth. As far as I know I believe the I am a direct descendent of: John Cage Died July 16, 1677 in Providence Maryland; his son Major William Cage Born 1745 Died 1811 Major in the war for independance. buried in Cage's Bend Sumner Co Tn. His son was Wilson Cage 1770 virginia Died July1 1847 Leroy Howard Cage( Methodist Preacher) born1798 Sumner Co Tn Died 1874 William Porter Cage Born Jan 11 1826 Died 1903 Civil war vet. possbly as a Dr of oderly. or Trooper in the 7th TN Cavalry George Alexander Cage Born Nov 15 1887 Died Jan 21 1986 Orville Howard Cage Feb 24 1909 Died Nov 1stl 1968 Donald Howard Cage born Mar 5 1949 Died (not yet) Jesse Travis Cage born Mar. 21 1990 Any information you might have on this branch of the Cages would be greatly appreciated. I have tons of pictures from 100+ years, some of them have names and dates on the back, but I do not know exactly who they are and how we might or might not be related.
Sincerely, Don Cage
