John & Michael Caddigan/Cadagan/Cadogan from Cork - father Cornelius
My great great grandfather John Cadagan and his brother Michael left Cork between 1835 and 1850 and settled at Keele in North Staffordshire, England. In July 1850, John married Hannah Bloor from Keele and in October 1850 Michael married Ellen Scully from Roscommon in Ireland. In the 1881 English census, John's place of birth is given as 'Cork Castle' and Michael's is just 'Cork'. On both their marriage certificates Cornelius Cadagan is given as their father. The surname is variously spelt as Caddigan / Cadagan / Cadogan.
I would be interested in any information on John and Michael's origins as the above is all I have. Also, if anyone else is descended from John, Michael or any other siblings.

Just came across your post. My grandfather was Cornelius Cadogan born in Boston USA in 1903. He descended from Patrick, he from Cornelius from Derrycreigh near Glengariff. Going this summer to take a look around, see if I can find anyone related.

Yours is the first reply I have had to my message and I would be interested in what you find out about the Cadogans in South West Cork, although according to a workmate who comes from Cork, it is quite a common name in that area. It seems the name comes from South Wales originally and there are quite a few in the 1881 census from around Pembrokeshire. The cluster in North Staffordshire in the 1881 census mostly seem to have descended from my ancestor John and his brother Michael. Since John was born in 1825, I would guess that 'my' Cornelius would have been born around 1800.
Look forward to your news.

My Caddigans/Cadegan....
I have a Cornelius Caddigan/Cadegan
He was born around 1819, possibly in the Skibereen area of Ireland. At some point he moved to England and married Bridget Toomey on August 21, 1859 in the Limehouse section of London.
According to the marriage certificate, Cornelius' father was Michael Cadagan.
Bridget and Cornelius had one son, Michael while in England and emmigrated to Massachusetts, then to Clontarf, Minnesota as homesteaders where Michael married Margaret Kelliher or Kaleher.
Any possible connection?

Re: John & Michael Caddigan/Cadagan/Cadogan from Cork - father Cornelius
I don't believe there is a direct connection, but I would love it if you could prove otherwise!
My g g grandfather John and his brother Michael were the sons of Cornelius and were both born in Cork. They both moved to North Staffordshire where John married a local girl, Hannah, in 1850 and Michael married Ellen Scully who was from Roscommon in Ireland. They both spent the rest of their lives in Staffordshire. I think they may also have had a sister called Margaret, but I have not confirmed that yet. I know Michael & John's father's name from their wedding certificates, but I don't know their mother's name.
If you do find any links, please let me know.

Have you found the information you want about people named Kelliher? There are several people with last name of Kelliher listed in the Minneapolis, Minnesota Dex telephone book. I believe I have read of a woman named Kelliher who has been in the Minneapolis Tribune Newspaper. I am not sure but seemed it was a Margaret. If you want further help, I live in a suburb of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. I may be able to help you further. Maxine

Re: John & Michael Caddigan/Cadagan/Cadogan from Cork - father Cornelius
My husband's family name CADOGAN, is, as you can see, spelled with an O in the center, although I'm sure there are variations that are still kin. His great grandfather Cornelius married Julia O'Donoghue in Cork, they never came to this country. They had 10 children, most of whom emigrated to America in the early 1900s. They did have a son Michael who remained in Ireland. I suspect he may have descendants still in the Glengarriff area, although when my husband and I were there we could find no one who recognized the name. COunty Cork is a big, and quite beautiful place. I'm sure the are cousins somewhere there.

I am from the Boston area. Grandmother's siblings include Tim, Jack, Patrick, Honore, Cornelius (Neal?), Michael, Anna. John and Mary Ellen. I think there were also Driscoll and Desmond relatives. Do you know Julia's or Cornelius' parents names? Siblings? Please reply.
