Currently looking for origin of Caccamise or Caccamisi. I am from upstate NY area (Genesee, Erie, and Monroe counties). Have located a few relatives of mine (mostly Gugino's and a couple Caccamise's) in the Farnham NY area. Most of my family came from Valledolmo Sicily and also from Caccamo, Sicily. Any information on any of these names (especially Caccamise or Caccamisi or Gugino) would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, My name is Meline Russo Hall, my grandmother was a caccamise. She was from Valledolmo Sicily. She says she was born there but I have yet to find her birth certificate through the LDS. She married my grandfather , also from valledolmo, whose name was Vincenzo Polizzi, AKA James is America. Theuy lived in Fredonia NY until 1924 when they moved to Rochester NY> My mother says that my grandmother told her she was related to a Dentist there but I do not know his name. It was such a long time ago all I know is that his office was on Portlan Ave. in the city. She had a sister named Louise who also lived in Fredonia until she married a man named anthony mancuso. She died in Buffalo in 1917 from the Spanish flu. She also had another sister named Vincenza(Jennie) who lived in Rochester NY, had four girls. Her husband was a Cammarata, however the first named escapes me right now. Hope this helps and I'll be looking forward to a reply. Meline

Hi Meline, My family (Caccamise) is also from Valledolmo. The doctor that you refer to that lived in Rochester was I believe Dr. William Caccamise (he was an eye doctor I believe). I know I am distantly related to him and his family, but not sure exactly how- (my family is from the Rochester/LeRoy area as well- although some lived in Buffalo as well). I have information on William and his family if you are interested. Let me know.

Re: Caccamise or Caccamisi
My husband's grandfather Sam Camise (born Santo Caccamisi) was born in Sicily in 1884. We've always thought in Cefalo because that's where the grandmother grew up and where they were married. They came to US in 1911, worked railroad, settled in Baltimore for a while then Cleveland, Mississippi. My mother-in-law is the last living child of that marriage and we would love to know more.
I have not been able to find much info on Caccamisi. Any clues?

hi i just read this query about caccamise. Thatr doctor I spoke of was on portland ave. My mom said he was a dentist. My mom said that my grandmother said he was her cousin. How close of a cousin I don't know. However, none of my family came to Buffalo after leaving frredonia except one of my grandfathers sisters. She was married to a Mancuso. I would be interested in having the info you have on William. thanks Meline

Re: Caccamise or Caccamisi
My name is Cristin Caccamisi. My father is John Anthony Caccamisi, but is known as Tony. His father was also known as Tony Caccamisi and his grandfather was Sam Caccamisi. We are all from the Memphis area. My father's father divorced from his mother while he was very young and she remarried quickly. There is much about the Caccamisi family we do not know. We have been told the family came from Sicily but that's about it. Sam is about as far back as we know we are connected but we would love more information, if available.
