I wish I couls help you but my family comes from Isabela. I was hoping to find descendants of my uncle,Zacharias. He supposedly ran away from his agressive father at age 16 and rumors had it that he went to work for Dole. My grandmother's name was Benita Caban Arroyo and she had light gray eyes(almost blue)and yes on the census sheet she and my mother were written up as mulatto. My mother was almost blonde and had hazel eyes, so go figure. The person taking the census must have been color blind. We might be related because Moca and Isabela are next to each other.

If you have your grandmother's name and two surnames, why don't you ask for her birth certificate and her baptismal record at her hometown? There is a lot of information there that you are letting go.

i dont have their birthdates. I did go to añasco parroquia, and they see a couple with their baby to baptize, juan caban maria morales their baby francisca caban morales, that would have been my grandparents and aunt, with these info (by the way i dont know my great grandparents names) but gives names of granparents of the child, i was so super excited, i had found them, so when i went to the census all these precious folks are described as mulatto, and my family were as i described before in earlier postings. So happy that Some one responded to me today, that her family were descibe as mulatto and they were white with clear eyes, so will be asking her if for sure she knew that she found the correct info in her search, cause then, praise God i most likely have found my family. So this type of mistake occurred then, i wish i could have given them a knuckle-sandwich, makes the search longer, but we are all human...again any tips, let me know. goin to find out if i could get oficinas of registro demografico to search without dates, wish me luck, ok? God bless ruth n elsa

Do not concentrate on that description, "mulatto". It depends not on your family ancestry, but on the perception and particular opinion of the person doing the field work. For example, if that person knew someone with the same last name who was a mulatto, he could decide that all were relatives, and even if he saw that yours were white with blue eyes, he could declare them mulattos. Concentrate on the basic data: names, addresses, ages, etc. The baptismal certificate not only includes the child's parents and grandparents, but the great grandparents. You should call the Parochial Register and ask if the great grandparents names on both sides are also there.

If you are looking at the US Census, you should look at the pages before and after the ones where you found your relatives. It was quite common to live in the same street or road, or to live in the same lot of land or "finca".
